PS3 being redesigned?

definitely possible. but just look at that design, where would the heatsink actually go lol. that mockup is suggesting the whole thing would fit in something not much bigger than a wii. i think the ps3 is really quite far away from that sort of development.

Wasn't the power use lowered from 200W to 125W with the new 40GB models, so if that is true and they can shrink a few more chips it might be very possible to make a smaller unit.
I'm failry certain IBM released it's 65nm Cell in March last year, so it could be possible that the 40GB models have it in already - anyone know?

Anyway, I know the new models are supposed to be a lot quieter than the earlier ones so maybe this and the GPU getting smaller are part of the reason?

Hopefully they completely change the aesthetics of the console to something that isn't anywhere near as fugly.

I know what you mean - the heatsink is MASSIVE in the PS3.

They're not likely to use the same design though are they. I think they are bound to redesign the whole thing from the ground up, including heatsink and fan.

When you look at their redesign history of PSone PStwo etc then they are bound to keep some of the same design principles so I fullt expect the PSthree to look like a rather flattened PS3 ;)

The PSOne was a sexy piece of kit for the time.
