What batteries do the ps3 controllers use? I'm hoping they allow you to use standard AA batteries so you can have a 5000mah capacity. I wouldn't be suprised though if sony used their usual low capacity 1800mah li-ion batteries so you have to pay £20 for a replacement from them *cough*psp*cough*.

It's a proprietary battery built into the controller.

No replacement batteries, just replacement controllers.

I knew $ony would pull something like this, the battery will last 1 year probably then require replacing for £25, outrageous. $$$$$

Give it a year, And we'll see. No point going into outrage mode when you're guessing

Just why didn't they allow AA batteries or replacement packs like the 360? Anyone can see it's another attempt to suck ps3 fans dry.

Maybe the built in powerpack is reliable and won't need replacing. Sony are expensive, But i'd say they are pretty good when it comes to their hardware

All batteries have a limited amount of cycles, there is no way around that unfortunatley.

Sony have stated they will replace controllers that have batteries that lose their charge. I can only think they would offer this as they are confident the batteries will last long.

nah its actually pretty good.

How the hell do you work that out? It's environmentally disastrous and Sony need their arses kicking to be honest. At least MS and Nintendo allow you to replace the batteries and avoid having to bin a controller every time the battery wears out.

I know that, I just can't see it lasting less than 12 months, My ipod shuffle still holds charge for days, and thats ancient now

Read above, They replace the controls if the batteries die.

And what do they do with the faulty controller? Straight into a landfill that's what.

You are seriously misguided if you believe that.

The controller will be refurbed, given a new battery, and re-sold.

So in the meanwhile, people are left without a controller, battery packs would have been the best way to go.

A dead battery is not really a fault, and can be easily replaced by Sony. Which they have already stated they will be doing.

So they give people used controllers? Great.

How quickly do you anticipate the batteries running out? Bearing in mind I have had my 360 one for bout 18 months and it still holds charge fine. I reckon it will last easily 3 years tbh. But it is not a worry for anyone at the moment who has bought a PS3.

rechargable batteries can be charged 1000's of times. assume a recharge say once a week, maybe twice a week. Do the maths.
