PS3 Fans kicking in?

Well it locked up just now whilst playing Uncharted, 5 mins rebooted and five mins into my game the fan cranked up to unacceptable levels.

Gonna have to send this heap of junk back I think.

My fans speed up a fair amount just sitting on the dash, that can't be normal surely?

If the restarting continues then you may have a case, mine hasn't crashed once yet so sony say there is nothing they can do, even though my ps3 is on the next to loudest fan level on the dash and when i start a game it kicks in to full (the fan test noise) after 5 mins or so and doesnt drop for about 30 mins and usually kicks in again 2-3 mins after that, i just gave up using my ps3 for now

my mate has his 60gb launchday one sat on top of the skyHD box under a shelf :O and it takes a good hour or so before the fans kick in. madness. maybe the newer ones arent built as well ?

My old 60Gb wasn't silent and neither is my 40Gb, I don't get how people can call it silent, I sit about 6 feet away from mine and can just about hear the fan/disc drive going when gaming, not silent but damn quiet.

It seems that some are and some arent.

I'm probably 4 - 5 feet away from mine when im using it, and i swear i can't hear a thing. No fan noise or disk noise at all. :)

I'm sure i'd hear something if i put my ear up to it though. :D

mine does it all the time,

people here say it is wrong but sony say it is normal,

now i am just browsing the web and the fans are at "stage 2"

I'll submit a photo of my PS3 (the fans have never ramped up either watching blu rays or playing oblivion for hours on end.)

It is in a tightish cabinet.

If my fans start ramping up i'm taking it back to the shops it's a flaw and not acceptable.

I misread the title and thought this was a thread to a arrange a "kicking" for "PS3 Fans".

I am a "fan" of the PS3, COME GET SOME IF YOU'RE HARD ENOUGH :)

rp2000
naah its the other way round, the title was just missing "XBox Fans" at the end...

which lets be honest, would be quite a realistic headline... PS3 fans are definitely a tougher breed :D

Quick update, I was watching a DvD yesterday, the room was cool and the PS3 is well vented and yet the fans went mental several times.

I've been on the phone to Sony and they are replacing it next week, no quibbles, they are just sending a replacement.

Sweet, i forgot about this thread, i got mine replaced at the place i bought it from, I told them it just wouldn't play games and my new one is pretty much silent all the time, it has never even got to fan stage 2 never mind the horrible 3

My 60Gb is noiser than my brothers 40. After an hour of gaming the fans level up on mine and whlist its still pretty quiet its audiable. Where as my brothers is basically silent, lower manufacturing process helps though.

MGS4 makes my 60gig go up a notch, still quieter than my 2x360's though, TBH i don't know what levels there is on my PS3 or when it does it normally as its still quiet in comparision to anything the 360 produces.......

I've had a PS3 for about 1 week now but today for some reason the fans seem to ramp up in speed out of nowhere from time to time, It's ludicously loud.

Anyone else's do this?

I have a unit i keep my SKY HD box in, Wii, 360 and PS3 and if i have it on and the units door is closed the 360 gets red ring due to over heat and the PS3 fans go into overtime!

Just open the door or take the back panel off if in a confined space!

Alternatively.... place the console in a freezer and power it then.....
