PS3 Firmware update 2.10

I see, it is news to me then, so has there been any game content on either platform that exceeds 1gb of addons?, how big was shivering isle on the 360, i would say that was the largest addon until GTA next year maybe, so really i cannot really see the limitations of 1gig which can be easily changed i should imagine effecting the ps3 or anything else to be frank, abit like much like MS increased the limitation of arcade game size.

It was news to me too but George Bain mentioned it at Game Horizon.
A game is allowed a limit of 5 releases at a maximum of 1gb each for downloadable game content.

Considering you downloaded GT5:P yesterday that was 1.8GB.....

I think (although not certain) that downloadable games are 2gb limit on PSN, and the 360 is 250mb (was previously 50mb). The 360 limits are more for the people who use memory cards as they were 64mb originally and are now 256mb. (the downloadable games limit was increased the same time as the 256mb cards were released).

With regards to add-ons I am unsure. (I know the same limits don't exists for demos as I have had demos off both systems weigh in at the 1gb-1.5gb mark).

Edit: I think people are confusing file system limits (for data you copy to the HDD yourself on the PS3, with downloaded content limits, which, if defined, are done at Sony's end).

There is no file size limit on PS3. Lots of people report having copied >4gb mpeg2 videos to the hard disk via network or DVD.

There are file size limits on various formats though.

Probably found a bug or something. All will be revealed tomorrow if the update notice pops up when PS3 is switched on.

Hey guys, firmware 2.10 already down, and installed :)

Too early to play with now, I'm off to bed.

Came down fast too, guess I had the bandwidth to myself at this time of the morning.

Just a heads up anyway, installed, and PS3 still boots! :)

Will try DivX files later in the day,

V1N.

EDIT: OK, I'm personally disappointed... just had a quick play. It won't play my home made XviD files, that I've been making for years. Tried from disk, and over network. It recognises the file, tells me the length, codec, bitrate, everything, but when I go to play, I get "Unsupported Data" oh well, I'm not going to go and reencode them again. Maybe it's because in AutoGK I always selected "Enable standalone support MTK/Sigma" which is the chipset of my DivX DVD player.

I also tried some, erm, alternatively obtained DivX and Xvid files, in lower res, and HD res, and they played fine, from the disk, and streamed over my network (WITHOUT transcoding of course) just used the Media Player DNLA Media Sharing system.
So, it does work, played some DivX here, but just not my home made ones. I won't despair too much, though I was looking forward to streaming all my own TV eps, and videos I've made from my server, but maybe they'll continue to add support.

just updated mine, bunged a divx video onto a Sd card, plays prefect. Now i can fast forward and rewind which is something you couldn't do previously when having to transcode via streaming.

great job

I tried with some downloaded SD content from the net and it said no files present on both by SD card and USB stick even tried some pictures and they didn't show either what am I doing wrong. Is there a specific format the media needs to be in for it to be recognised. One thing I have noticed is that this latest update and made the front interface a little unstable as it froze on me twice whilst going between options.

I will try again tonight when I get home.
