Ps3 first impressions and questions

Hmm, I was really thinking of cashing in my 360 with games etc. and getting a ps3 maybe...Due to it's quiteness and media functions, also the extras of having a blu ray player! A few exclusives I would love to play too, F1 championship, GT5, warhawk etc. What do you guys think I should do?

If you're not happy with your Xbox360, go for it.

Well, I am happy with it, but the noise of the thing annoys me, and a few of the ps3 really appeal to me, also the added blu ray intrigues me too. Still not 100% sure if I should go through the trouble of selliing loadsa 360 stuff and building up a new collection for it...Does the Sixaxis motion sensing add a lot to some games, and is there a big difference between the 2 consoles?
Thanks

How much do you lot reckon I could get for a 360 core, with 1 wired, 1 wireless controller, 120gb HDD and a few fairly new games...:D

i can hear my new 360 from 12ft away easily and thats with normal Tv background noise and people chatting and this is quieter than my old 360. My Ps3 i cannot hear from 3/4 ft away

At the end of the day in terms of gaming performance the two consoles are pretty much on a par. The PS3 is harder to code for but the results on the exclusives front tend to each be as impressive as the other. The sixaxis does feel tacked on in every game aside from drakes fortune, where it is by no means integral, but it does add an extra, more responsive, element in control when jumping from ledge to ledge (in my opinion), its definately not a selling point of the system.

Now, the differences, lets start the tasty fanboy war. The xbox360 boasts the best online features (things may possibly change when home is released - time will tell) and the largest catalogue of game IF you don't own a PC (if you have a PC you will tend to find the majority of 360 exclusives eventually come out on it). However as we all know it has the reliability of a car built by British Leyland (yes we all know they have improved, but he is looking to sell his OLD 360, and if he wants the most for his money he will have to use an auction site and deal with the concequences of a failure).

The PS3, in terms of build quality, is superior to the 360, if anyone wants to argue that then go for it, but i really can't see any basis. There is a smaller catalogue of games, however they seem to have a larger quantity of truely permanently exclusive games. It does all the same things as the 360 in terms of media extension at pretty much the same standard, the UI is maybe slightly faster but nothing to write home about, but as you mentioned it has a blu-ray player.

If you really want a quieter machine than the 360 with blu-ray support then get the PS3. However, if it really isn't that big an issue just stick with the 360, it is an excellent dvd player (if a little loud)/media extender with a huge catalogue of excellent games.

Thanks a lot for that input mate, appreciate it. Thing is, I do not believe in paying for online services, therefore I dont actually have GOLD, only use the odd 48 hour code. Also have a decent PC, not amazing by any means, but it plays most games at medium-high, so its not that bad. These 2 reasons are some of the main reasons I am thinking of switching for, free online service and most 360 games can be had on the PC. I am in college atm, so don't have that much money, so only really get 2-3 games when its my bday or christmas, or sometimes trade, so i dont need a hugley large games library, only a few AAA ones...;)

I'm still confused on this one, it really depends on how much or how easily I can get rid of this 360, since I know I can rid the HDD for about 60, the console about 100-120, and the games altogether about 80...

If you only have a silver account then i would reguard the PSN as an upgrade. Both consoles will easily supply 4-6 AAA games a year, if you are worried about hassle issues then just ring up some high street stores local to you - they will give you an on the spot quote for how much they are willing to pay for a trade-in, then base whether you can afford the change on that.

Yeh, I have silver atm, but have about 20 48 hour codes, but when they run out I will not be getting GOLD. I was originally thinking about the PS3 at the beggining, but the price was 400, no less at that time, so I knew which console to get.

But now the PS3 can be had for about 200ish used even. Doesn't matter getting it used because of the non existant failure rate:p. But I want to make enough cash to buy at least 2-3 games when I first get it. A bit low on cash, but got 30 quid from the Royal Mail ;)

The PS3 a few months ago was easily the underdog to the 360, but now that its catalogue is catching up, I can see it passing the 360 in terms of quality.
