PS3 HDD upgrade recommendations please...

Wonder if you could put a solid state in it:confused:

Not very big but maybe in the future you could use a bigger one:p

I think it was mentioned that some games where having problems because 7200rpm drives where writing too quickly to the hdd, if this is the case then solid state drives would be completely out (as they are even faster to write)

Obviously once this issue is resolved then its a possibility (as long as heat isnt an issue, in fact I guess SSD's would be cooler so nothing to worry about)

ive had no problems with my ps3 so far:) any idea what problems they were getting?

Fair enough mate, might give it a try myself...gotta say, the nexstar 3 is the perfect caddy to accompany the ps3! They were made for each other lol

they are:)

Nice trick.

Ineed, very impressive james, ghetto HDD mod :D

I'm going with the safe 5400rpm 320gb internal samsung option. Now I just need to work out what file types I can convert my pr0n too so it will work on the PS3. :)

i didnt see that post!

im pretty sure you cant do that. windows cant read the filesystem and neither can osx. im pretty sure the backup made would use the same filesystem as the main drive.

but isn't the backup just a load of files on the fat32 usb drive where its making the backup, pc would see the drive being fat32 but just maybe not recognize the files but "should" just transfer to pc so then i can plug that 120gig in PS3 and format the 60gig PS3 one back to fat32 and transfer file structure onto that and then plug that in and do a restore.............hoping anyway otherwise its a lot of redownloading, lol

oh no i see what you're doing. it should work yes, but you might have to download certain stuff again. looking at sony's blurb about system backups, it doesnt copy a lot of copy protected stuff. im assuming that means downloaded content tied to your user account - singstar songs, anything like that ect.

That depends, maybe the external drive needs to be formatted first before doing a backup making the drive unreadable to Windows.

Yep, post #7 mentions it formats the drive prior to doing a full backup: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=112155

No it doesn't. He wrote that he repartitioned and formatted it.

edit:

<--(me idiot) "post #7", sorry about that. I think he means it formats the target drive for the restore, not the backup.

scrapped my plans, caddy no good, works fine on 360 needs both usb connections but works, on Ps3 it won't find anything or comes up with "usb device at max load or something like that and tells me to disconnect one of the usb leads.

So sod it i just bunged the 120gig in the Ps3, Ps3 formatted it and now downloading lots of stuff again, lol - 63 singstar songs for starters :(
