Ps3 is faster than any pc...

I disagree. Whereas there is a certain element of supercilious beligerence to a lot of rypt's posts, in this case s/he's clearly out and out wrong. Admittedly, in a very very simplified representation, mouse control can be analogised more completely to analog inputs like a joypad thumbstick as opposed to, say, a hat switch, which is purely digital, but saying analog(ue) stick control is comparable to mouse control is... well, there's an ignorance in such a statement that borders on dribbling stupidity. Being right is nowhere near as important as knowing when you're wrong.

I hope this applies to you too, as this wasn't what was being spoken about.

No one thinks a gamepad is comparable to a mouse in accuracy terms.

What I am saying is that the basic principals of how an analogue stick works is comparable to how a mouse works, in that, in its simplest terms, an analogue stick is 2 potentiometers, one pot is assigned the job of tracking "X" and another is assigned the job is tracking "Y".

A ball mouse, for example, works this EXACT way. It has 2 wheels or "rollers" in it. One that tracks "X" and one that tracks "Y".

Amnesia was claiming that a mouse, when used with a console, would be no better than a controller in terms of accuracy, which is totally wrong, he also claimed that it was simply emulating the controller, and therefore is just as limited as the controller itself, which isn't true, as the accuracy is mainly dependant on the usage of analogue sticks, and a mouse is far easier and more accurate to control "X" and "Y" co-ordinates than an analogue stick.

A good example of why PCs doing better as far as games are concerned is Dragon Age Origins. It's not ground breaking graphics but the PC out does both console versions in every area. Graphics res gameplay and controls.

erm no i didnt lol
i was talking about using a mouse through that device in the video....massive difference.

the game doesnt have mouse support, it only supports joypads so all that device can do is mimic the joypad movement using a mouse.
thats why the mouse would have the same limitations as a joypad ...because the game wasnt designed any other way.

but u seem to be disagreeing and im still unsure of what u say when u try and explain lol.

We get the best of both worlds: The best versions of the majority of multi-platform titles, and PC exclusives that simply couldn't be done on consoles. Yes...consoles get exclusive titles (which is why I own a console too) but hasn't that been the case since the dawn of time? Yet still PC gaming lives on..

There really should be nothing to debate about as everyone knows consoles are the better platform. (not because consoles are more powerful - because they are not - it's because all the good games are on the consoles)
It's just the ones trying to justify spending £500+ on a PC or even a GFX card, when there are literally no games to play except games made for consoles ported over to PC.
I don't blame them, I once spent over £400 on a GFX card before and learned the hard way theres nothing to play.

That's not saying I don't like the PC because I probably spend more time on my PC than my game consoles but I'm on my PC to either work or IM or facebook but not for gaming. (unless for those addictive flash games :D )

Can I please call this guy a goon? Mods, please? No? Ok. This guy is clueless.

You want a list of good games released on PC that are better than the console version?

Left 4 Dead 2 (KB, Mouse, the console, mods, Unofficial Servers, more zombies at once I'm told as well.)
Modern Warfare 2 (Keyboard and Mouse for a start, graphics again.)
GTA4 (Keyboard and Mouse for a start, graphics again.)

And that's just a start. There are also the RTS and MMORPH ones which you tell us we can't include.

You're obviously the insecure one here so quit while you are behind, before dropping yourself even further back.

How has this fantasy thread been going for so long

these threads happen every other month and do produce a lot of rather silly posts, but they usually die down once the console nerds realise the PC gods are correct !! :p

This forum, i'm guessing is used mostly by PC Enthusiasts, who enjoy building and overclocking their systems. For what reason? For a very large percentage of the time, gaming.

But this is the part i don't get, why would anyone come on to a forum like this, with so many PC gamers to tell them all that console gaming is better? I don't get it?

It's not quite the same as using a mouse in PC games. You're limited by the controllers max turn speed so you rely on game sensitivity settings. So basically it doesnt do anything the pad cant. Aiming is probably easier in theory (its a mouse after all) but in the end its personal preference. The newer version of that xfps device is supposed to work better but I'll put money on it being nowhere near as effective as a mouse on a PC.

What always makes me chuckle is that PS3 gamers cant NOT mention the blu-ray player. Every mate of mine (yes all three of them :D ) who has a PS3, bought it NOT becuase of the games they wanted to play on it, but becuase it was...wait for it...

A cheap, good, Blue-ray player, the gaming element was a plus.

It's great that there are people across the country using little more than a trumpted up VCR and thinking it's the pinnacle of gaming.

And then lets not forget the product life cyle of a console.

  • By the time it gets released it's already out of date (hardware wise).
  • The games released int he first year or two are previous generation tech adapted to run on the new consoles.
  • It's not till a few years after the console's release that you actually get games using the full capabilities of the, now, upto 5-6 years out of date hardware.
  • They have a period of 2-3 years of titles all looking the same as the console's limits have been reached.
  • Then their value collapses when their repsective companies announce they are starting work on the next generation of console.
  • Finally console gamers have to then go out and not only buy the new console but also all the added components. Hard drives, joypads, motion sensors, gaming boards, remote controls, wireless devices... Alll of which are often not compatitble between platforms.

I'm Housey and I'm 42. When most of you were mere sparkles in mum and dad's eyes I was comparing my epic Atari 400 to idiots with ZX81's, Spectrums and Texas TI99/4a's trying to convince me there machines were best. I knew they were on glue of course, well as a 15 year old I knew EVERYTHING. Hopefully, most of the people in this thread are at that age of knowledge....heaven forbid if anyone is older than this debating the merits of why their chosen platform is best.

Having said this today I simply buy em all so I can cover all bases, I'd HATE to back the wrong horse and everyfin ;)

idiots with ZX81's

Christ those things were hardcore. My bro had one. I remember him playin a basic (literally) version of Space Invaders on it, which he had to type the program in just to play it! I cant remember if he ever got around to getting any actual games on cassette or anything. He didnt have it long before it got nicked when we were burgled :o

Back in the day I remember being impressed, amazing isn't it. 3D Monster Maze for the win :D

Let me just say my 2p.

Dont blame anyone for not wanting to read this much.

When I was around 2, I used to get up at 5am to play bubble bobble on my NES, I was addicted, and ever since then, I played every console that came out, as lets face it. That was the way to play back then. (I'm talking late 80's to mid 90's)

Then I touched my first PC in 1996, and shortly had a blast at games like Doom and Duke 3D, man they were awesome, but it wasn't till the original AvP 1 on PC in 99 that I completely turned to PC, man what a game that was, and it basically did what consoles do now in terms of gameplay, maybe more. It was p2p, no mod support, relied on Mplayer as a platform realistically to play and apart from the M+KB support and the text chat, that was it. I continued this with AvP2 in 2001, and then eventually dropped out of PC gaming and gaming altogether due to life and other things going on. In around 2007, my brother returned home from university with his Xbox360, and I played this new game "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare".

Firstly, I was dazzled, I'd missed 6-7 years of gaming and was thrilled at this new gen of tech!. I played it non stop all night till I completed it. Then a week or two later, I decided to fire up AvP2 again on my PC and give it whirl, what a blast I had and it was then I realised, how cool would Cod4 be to play on the PC, and instantly began to research the latest hardware and order myself a rig.

It was then I realised how much I'd missed gaming, but in paticular PC gaming. I purchased L4D on the promise from an old AvP2 gamer I knew, and instantly became hooked, all the things that reminded me of what made PC gaming great were there. In a long story short, I was back into a competative gaming scene, and in the summer of 09, I and my clan became the only european team to win a cash prized tournament in L4D, (The Games Master Night Cup), (coincidently the only cash prized tournament in europe for L4D).

During this time all the realisations of consoles as an inappropriate platform for gaming came forward. Pay to play, 10 year old kids screaming and fighting, low quality resolution with little to no AA,simple control system and little to no serious gamers.

I currently play many games in the competative scene and that's something that any console has nothing of, and dont try to fob me off with some idiots playing cod on Xboxlive as clan or something, because thats just pathetic. True competative gaming requires the PC and imo, always will. Simple things such as a command console, mod support, dedicated servers, accurate control system are essential to compet play and are all what is to be considered standard on a PC.

It is a little worrying at the complete lack of attention the PC is getting, even games are now designed around using a controller therefore making the gameplay terrible, games like UT are totally dead now, as its fast paced high accuracy requirement cant be fulfilled by a controller.

In short, consoles only worth in my eyes, is to get the lads round with a few beers and play some FIFA, and the odd must play title, (such as MGS). I congratulate Nintendo and making a console that centres that gameplay and offers something totally unique compared to a PC. If your an average joe and like to play occasionally, get the console, its perfect for you. If your a serious gamer and want to play as an ethusiast, theres only one path.. the PC.

On a side note, I watched my mate playing FEAR 2 on his PS3 and was ****ing HORRIFIED at it, the resolution on his 50" TV looked like 640 or something upscaled and the lack of high res textures and anything remotely innovative distraught me, but what got me the most, the JAGGIES, holy jesus, the screen was just a pixelated mess, and how anyone could think that was a fun experience must still be in PS1 times. In this modern age, if your going to release a console, at least give it some ****ing anti aliasing as playing these "games" in so called "HD" just makes them look like an 8bit side scroller.
