ps3 or not?

There will be many better Blu-ray players out in the future and they'll be cheaper too. Look what happened to DVD. The PS2 was one of the first to get on board DVD and it plays them like sweaty ass compared to players that came out later that were less than half the price.

Don't spend £350+ for something that will be worse than a £150 player in a year.

What a load of Crap! The PS3 is Sony's flagship Blu-Ray player and will continue to be for a long time, what with all the firmware upgrades.

You wont even be able to get a Blu-Ray player for 150 in a years time let alone one that is anywhere near as good as the PS3's Blu-Ray capabilities.

I got my second ps3 a few weeks back, i hadnt played Motorstorm online the first time, but played a full night of it, i didnt win, but it was great fun.

Im currently really enjoying ninja gaiden, I hadnt played it before so its a real treat, it looks gorgous and its really rewarding to play.

Apart from that I play a lot of Virtua Fighter 5, which again, rewards you well by investing in it.

I use it for DVD's, it really outclasses my Philips 1080p upscaling DVD player, the ps3 upscaling is phenomenal. I only have watched a few blu-ray's, the best advert for HD stuff on the PS3 is the new simpsons trailers, the amount of 3d effect in that is jawdropping, i cant wait till its released on blu-ray.

I bet the same thing was said when the PS2 was first released.

a) The PS3 is very good BD player

b) In a year the PS3 will also be an excellent games console

No, it could be. Nothing is certain.

This is exactly what everyone said about the PS2 when it came out.

:edit:Beaten to it :D

Get a PS3 if you want, just don't be annoyed if there are better, cheaper Blu-Ray players out in the near future.

It wasn't really, the PS2 was seen as an OK dvd player, nothing special.
Sony have a lot riding on both Blu-Ray and the PS3, and keep pimping both as such, you rarely hear them talking about one and not the other, for this reason it will continue to be top of the range.

I wouldn't even think of trading in my Xbox360 for a Playstation3. Almost a year in and it's still not in the same league as Microsofts offering. Keep the money.
Or, if you don't have a 5.1 setup, get yourself some speakers.

How can it continue to be top of the range? Sooner or later faster bluray drives will be released, decoders will improve etc. etc. and it will be superceded. Perhaps the PS3 will keep with these updates, but not the one you go and buy today! Unless they've made a way for Firmware to magically update Hardware!!

Difference is that the PS2 couldn't have the firmware updated online, to introduce new features to it. I dont know many "cheap" BD players that will have HDMI 1.3 and that will allow you to do 1080P @ 24 fps though, in 1-2 years time maybe but by then the PS3 will be much cheaper . Dont actually think the PS2 was ever rated that highly as a DVD player unlike the PS3 is as BD player.

Well faster drives etc isn't exactly going to help blu-ray playback is it?

a lot of the decoding is done via software iirc which can be updated through the firmware. if you see the list of updates the Blu-Ray has had then you will see just how well the PS3 will fair.

I wouldn't get rid of a 360 right now, not with the games coming between now and christmas, unless they're just not your sort of game. I'm thinking BioShock, Mass Effect, Halo 3 etc... plus there isn't much on the PS3 over the same period. If it's one or the other and not both, keep the 360.

On the other hand I wouldn't get the HD-DVD drive since the early indications are that Blu-ray might have the momentum.

Keep the 360, save up for a PS3 and by the time you have done there'll be plenty of titles worth playing on it.

Why wouldn't be?

We've seen some of the games arriving between now and this time next year, so exactly how it won't be a good games console is beyond me? The only side that may lack, or were not entirely sure of is the online side of things but Home should help this along, and the reports from the Beta testers was very positive :)

+ you get an excellent BD player right out of the box now :D

Amazingly enough, some games that look good aren't necessarily great games.

Resistance: Fall of Man and Motorstorm are two shining examples on the Playstation 3 already. Lost Planet is another example on the Xbox360 (before some idiot tries to berate me).

I dont like resistance, but then again I hated Gears of War :p

Im about to get my second 360, my wifes getting me another for my birthday in a few weeks, if your an avid gamer, you really will want both (or all 3 really) :)

That's a matter of opinion tho...

I personally thought all 3 of those games were worth a purchase and enjoyed each of them. I'm sure others would agree.

For instance i've enjoyed Motorstorm a lot more than any other racing game I've played, which includes PGR, Forza, Dirt, F1.

Also all the games scored over 7/10 with most reviewers so they can't exactly be bad games, can they?

Of course it's a matter of opinion, however currently the PS3 offers nothing we haven't seen before, or even offer good games in those genre's we have. Arguably its best game is a remake of a last-gen title for the Xbox.

At the moment the 360 is the one to have, but after this year theres very little of interest to me personally coming out on the 360. Halo 3, PGR4 and possibly bioshock are the only games on the 360 that are catching my attention, whereas theres plenty out next year on the PS3.

I honestly can't see how people are saying stuff like that Stellios. I look at the lineup of future Xbox360 games (and their probably sequels  ) and I can't help but think gaming has never looked stronger.

Now this is where we beg to differ, because I fail to see any games similar to Motorstorm, F1 or Resistance available on a next gen console, and if there are they arn't IMO as good.

I'll agree on Sigma, but for me and others who haven't played the original it really doesn't matter if it was released before.

As for future releases, all I see coming to the 360 is FPS & RPG's (lots of them), and a much more diverse lineup for the PS3 (HS, Lair, LBP, R&C). Whether these games will be any good is another matter but atm we can say the same about the 360 future releases so we'll have to wait and see :)
