ps3 or not?

Edz said:
That's fair enough but how can you rate a game, i.e. Lair when none of us have played it yet?
Nobody can, but it's pretty clear you can draw an opinion.

Edz said:
Sounds to me like your more interested in how a game looks over how it plays!!
I believe I stated that it's always worth waiting to see how it plays, but as an artist then obviously looks are taken into account. However, Lair LOOKS like it PLAYS crap.

Edz said:
Take for instance Warhawk, looks so so yet the beta testers praised it, maybe the game is better to play than it looks?
Everything in this game LOOKS horrible, from the style of the basic environments, the the dull characters and the god-awful interface.

What like Gears of War?
Gears of War was clearly missing content, howevre it allowed you to get from A-Z throughout the game, collect stuff, do it via co-op and had multiplayer.

Motorstorm didn't even have 2 players and lacked any depth to the MP mode. I was reading in a PS3 review from a PS3 magazine a few months ago, yesterday and they gave Motorstorm 8 and openly admitted 'When the extra modes come along change this score into nine, and even, maybe, a ten.' That's what strikes me as criminal. Charging full whack for a game that didn't even have features it was originally meant to have, then release them later for a lot more money. It's only a racing game, as it is, it lacks depth and features, therefore, it's an average game.

Edz said:
Harsh, very harsh.. Admittedly it's not great but it does have a good length in SP, better than average story, Offline CO-OP and 40 player virtually lag free MP. It may not be great but it certainly isn't bad! (in fact can't think of a 360 exclusive FPS that's better!!!)
It may be harsh, but I am being honest here and I've always maintained that it has an excellent multiplayer mode. But it's as generic, by the book as you get. 'Humans vs Aliens', 'Urban Environment', 'Alien Environment', 'Vehicles' etc.. and even they were uninspiring, lacking any 'wow, we haven't seen that before' factor. Half-Life did everything Resistance did 10 years ago and it did it a hell of a lot better too.

Heavenly Sword definately being up there near the top.
My point is that any future exclusives don't have a lot to beat, so Heavenly Sword WILL be the best game on the format and even then I'd be surprised if it's better than God of War. However, it's shaping up to be a good game.

I was the same and Heavenly Sword has gave me a lot more confidence in the future of the PS3, but right now Nokkon is totally right. Whatever good games is on the PS3 run like ass, and whatever original stuff it has, sucks. That's pretty much the gist of the first year of the PS3. Sony couldn't be in a tigher bind than they already are right now.
Way-hey, someone who see's exactly what I mean.
I'm not being harsh on the far future of the PS3, only the present and near future (til Christmas).

triple post, its a pain replying to several people isn't it :p

I agree on resistance, it seemed like an ok shooter but it didn't have a single original thing about it. Now a days with so many shooters on the market you have to have something that sets you apart, GoW had top graphics and an excellent cover system, Halo 2 had a robust multiplayer mode with excellent developer and community support, Prey had unique uses of mavity and portals, combined with a organic futuristic artistic style. Resistance just doesn't have anything that hasn't been done before.

What a load of Crap! The PS3 is Sony's flagship Blu-Ray player and will continue to be for a long time, what with all the firmware upgrades.

Agreed, and it is a miles better BR player than the PS2 was a DVD player.

However with the sales figures of the PS3 as they stand, unless we see a significant increase in sales, it is not going to help us in the HD market where prices will remain high due to lack of uptake vs cost of production etc. No probs if you have money to burn on the BR disks over normal DVD

You wont even be able to get a Blu-Ray player for 150 in a years time let alone one that is anywhere near as good as the PS3's Blu-Ray capabilities.

You say this like it’s a good thing, it isn't. Ideally you should look at both HD formats as different movies are coming out on either one or the other format.

That aside, the PS3 is certainly a nice bit of kit to have, it is expensive and I wouldn't choose it over a 360 if you like gaming at the moment.

People are saying buy the PS3 for future titles as it will get better but so will the 360 so ideally you want both.

The fact we saw £750 come of the RRP of Samsungs BR player in the space of 6 months goes to show that production cost IS dropping. I believe, 12 months from now we will see £150 BR players in shops.

I bought a PS3 last week and the thing just oozes quality, very impressed.

Blu-ray playback is better than my old Samsung while firmware updates will continue to improve the system.

Sure games are still lacking but GT5 Prolouge will be ready before Chrstimas, plus Lair, Haze and a whole heap of quality games.

So let me get this right nokkon, you don't rate any current PS3 games, and you don't like the look of any future games on the console (or at least up to christmas).

Why exactly do you have one?

Think a lot of people need to put an "in my opinion" in there posts! Personally I cant see how ALL the exclusive PS3 games suck? RFOM although not everyones cup of tea has a very good rating, out of 67 reviews by magazines and game sites only 8 rated it below 8/10 average 86% not bad for a game that is poor. I must have played a different game to some as I dont think any of the weapons are poor, each weapon has its strengths and throughout the game i didnt find my self sticking to an "uber" gun, unlike some FPS i could mention. Each weapon has a use and makes it the ideal choice in certain situations , the sapper is ideal for killing leapers, setting traps for chimera etc. The alternate fire on the Hailstorm excellent for launching into to small rooms to clear out the enemy in a hail of bullets, the lark rocket launcher R1 feature when the war head splits and seeks out nearby chimera, I could go on listing all the excellent features of these weapons, not all are original but to have so many weapons with so much variety of features in one game is very rare. Super Stardust HD on the PSN is a phenomenal game, taking me back in time to me old Amiga, although it never looked, sounded or played so good, probably IMO one of the best down loadable games on any system, another one that defiantly isn't poor!
Tekken 5 DR (soon to go online!) on the PSN , another exclusive PS3 game that is not poor by any standard especially as its only £7! Then theres games like Motorstorm, not the greatest game in the world, but its great fun to play online or off , with extra content coming this month with new vehicles and tracks to add to the longevity of the game, as i said not the best but defiantly not a poor game in my opinion :D
To the OP all that i will say is first of all have a look at the game sites, read reviews of the PS3 games you're interested in and games out in the next few months, then decide on getting a PS3 or not. You will then have some idea if you think its worth it or not. I personally think sometimes asking on a forum about things like this only get you more confused, so many people so many opinions.

With them being Multiformat it's likely I'll get them on the Xbox360 for 2 reasons, firstly the implementation of easily being able to play with, or against friends across a range of new games rather than the more complex method implemented (currently) on the Playstation3. Secondly is the vastly superior (in my opinion, obviously) gamepad which is a better size, better placed sticks and buttons, better weighted and has rumble.

3rd. Achievements. C'mon confess.

And it's stuffed full of bugs and annoyances, huge host advantage during online play, shotgun shots that just don't kill after hitting their target four or five times (then along comes the host and hammers you one shot), a stupid cover system that uses the same button as sprint, dodge and forward roll, ending in you sticking to anything near you. Which is often because the game is full of walls, blocks, vehicles, barriers etc... There is a easy fix for this but Epic are to stupid.

Isn't Gears human vs aliens? 'Urban' environments?

Forza 2 doesn't have 2 player split screen, niether do most of the other 360 driving games. Why does MP mode need depth? It's supposed to be fun and 'pick up and play' Forza 2 is pig boring in SP and slightly better in MP.

It's all very well you pointing out all the bad points on PS3 games, but you fail to do the same for the opposition, as usual ;)

Eh? I've already said I like the look of future games. Infact, I named you a few examples. I've also said it has an excellent online system for MP gaming and that I really like Blu-Ray playback.
I do rate some PS3 games, Oblivion is a superb title, however it's multiformat. Ninja Gaiden Sigma is outstanding, but it's a remake of an old game on another format.

What I did say is that I don't rate any current EXCLUSIVE games on the Playstation3.

Not once have I ever said anything different so why do you assume I have with every post?

Well, it's an excellent feature without a doubt and as I stated, I guarantee it's something both Nintendo and Sony wish they came up with, however I managed to play games without them for years, so it's not vitally important :).

As I mentioned, online is always flawed on the Xbox360 due to P2P online systems. I wouldn't call Epic 'stupid' though, especially as they are probably the most influential company in video games.

Nice cut to my post. I said Resistance lacked any form of originality or imagination. Gears of War clearly did.

I've said in several posts that I don't like Forza 2 as well. There is a review on my blog also. PGR3, Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Burnout all offer local multiplayer in some form or variation and all were relatively early releases for the console, 2 of which were launch day titles.

As usual.... yeah. I never criticise Xbox360 or Wii games... You wanna go checking posts my friend, I'm extremely honest. Not blinkered like some people.

Can i just say that i think Resistance does off some originality, it was a nice look/spin refresh on the staid old WW2 shooters that have been doing the rounds for so long now. Also had a very engaging, well told story. IMO

Gears wasn't original in the slightest. Apart from the quick uber reload thing, which is quite liked, that game doesn't have any originality, and has no story in the slightest. I fought a guy at the end and i don't know why  I read on t'internets he was called general RAAM though, which made me feel better after i killed him.

But meh everyone knows my feelings on GoW. It's like a stripper, great to look at, but don't expect much by way of conversation ;)
