PS3 or XB360 ...

Well mine was noisey, fact!!!

If yours isn't then good for you, but as there have been several posts in this forum alone claiming it's the 360 is too noisey then I'd say your one of the few lucky ones.

And I just corrected your last comment for you :D and would like to add its an absolute waste of money for a new console

Back at ya...
how much was the 360 when released?

I've only got the 360 at the moment the games are great it is noisier than any previous console I've owned (& my friends PS3) but I crank the sounds up on my TV so it doesn't bother me. Apart from ruining 1 of my disc's (scratched) I've had no issues with it but I do keep it well ventilated.

After playing my mates PS3 I was hooked and I will deff be getting one later in the year, but not at the expense of my 360! I really liked Motorstorm & F1 while I've got the 360 I'm not in a hurry for the PS3 so by October/November hopefully the games will be there.

I've not used my 360 to playback dvds as its next to my dvd player which runs silent.

It's fair to say from different aspects, both consoles offer much.. and you need to look at what pros and cons relate to you..

I'd always recommend the 360, it has a degree more decent titles available, and will have until next year..

Online wise, it's horses for courses, what little online games the PS3 has it does well, however, there are far more online 360 games, and even some titles that appear on both are MP only on the 360..

Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, the only fact is that if you want all the upcoming titles in HD, you need both.. PS3 has bumped BR sales up, but sales are miniscule compared to regular DVD, with the catalogue of titles on both formats very very limited at the moment..

Noise wise, my PS3 isn't 'silent' and neither are my mates, but when playing a game, the 360's DVD noise is louder, but 90% of people just don't care, it's well under the volume of the TV...

you must have something wrong with the bearings in your fan then, why does every-one worry about a little fan noise when you cant hear it for the TV speakers anyway!!

It isn't the bearings in any fans, it is the DVD drive that is the problem on the 360, hence why you see a lot of refferences to 'The quieter BenQ drives' all over the place.
Tbh your ranting about anyone who said the 360 is noisey being a fanboy, is actually very fanboyish.

If you haven't owned either then the PS3 will probably have enough to tide you over, as it is getting the multi format games etc, has free online, and plays blu-rays. Also during this dry spell of games, you still have the PS2 games GoW2, FFXII, GH2/GH to keep you entertained, and any others you haven't played yet.

The 360 has the bigger and better games catalogue, but just remember to figure out the true price of what you will buy.

Yes the 360 is noisey, no the 360 isn't quite as cheap to a lot of people as they first think.
Yes the PS3 is a great bit of kit, no it doesn't have many games to play on it right now.

Personally i would get a 360 just now and trade it in or sell it on later if the PS3 gets more titles that interest you.

It seems to me PS3 is superior in every way currently - except for the smaller selection of games and worse online system (it's still fine though). If you have/going to have a HDTV the PS3 is worth it just for the blu-ray though.
(I have all 3 consoles btw)
lol, is it just me or is gaming not the most important part of a console?

As a gamer, right now, for me the 360 is by far the better console to own. If I was more into movies than games then yeah, I'd probably go for the PS3 but not because I believe Blue-Ray is better supported, but simply because I'd prefer it to be in one unit rather than having the 360 and a separate drive.
Eventually, the PS3 is obviously going to have a catalogue of games to rival the 360 but that's not going to happen this year. If I had to pick between the two right now, I'd go for the 360 and if later down the road I felt like switching I would sell/trade the 360 and get a PS3 - the PS3 will no doubt be cheaper by then and have a much better catalogue of games i.e. at least one must have title.

I have both consoles and my experiences with both are like chalk and cheese - the 360 got me back into console gaming big time whereas the PS3 has been used as a folding machine 95% of the time. I've got 22 games for the 360 and there's still several releases I'm intending on picking up (i.e. games that are currently out) - I have Motorstorm for the PS3 and there is not one other game I want.

Ok guys, I want to buy one in the next month or 2, I got a 37" HDTV...

I am buying for movies and gaming, not just gaming so the whole BR vs HD-DVD is important.
I am hearing and reading a lot about XB360's failing, anyone got a PS3 that has died?

Is there any plans to release a XB360 with the HD-DVD as standard?

Are the PS3 better now with a few software upgrades? I remember people saying that they were less than good when they first arrived.

Any opinions welcome.

Thanks.

Point 1: Hopefully in 1-2 months the PS3 games catalogue will be bigger & better but it won't outweigh the comprehensive selection on the 360.

Point 2: PS3 wins hands dowm, better catalogue of films, more advertising & the PS3 doesn't require an addon.

Question 3: Never heard of a PS3 fail, but as you stated 360's do seem prone to problems. (Although it is early for the PS3)

Question 4: No, not as far as were aware, the new 360 Elite won't have the HDD drive built in and the add on will still be white, where as the console will be black.

Question 5: Yes the PS3 has had some great software updates and hopefully these will continue to improve the system.

I hope this answers your questions, as I felt some of the posts missed the point regarding HD/DVD requirements. If you just want gaming and can't wait then the 360 is way to go...

ps3, well made, reliable, silent, blu-ray, dvd ps1/ps2 upscaler, hdmi, excellent sound quality, user upgradeable hard drive, built in browser, dual boottable ( linux and ps3 os ) and excellent games coming soon aswell as home / free online. Well thats why I bought one truly brillant.

heres the plan

go buy a 360 from a high street store, play on it for 5 days and if you can live with it, keep it. Otherwise take it back before the 7th day and get a ps3. thats what i did, got shop credit and paid the difference.

i dont really care if i cant play R6V on a 360, personally i hate FPSs with a gamepad. I still use my PC for CS:S most days and look forward to new PC FPSs. Keyboard and mouse all the way!

My ps3 is whisper quiet. I love the build quality, blueray player, hdmi quality and PSN. at the moment im playing motorstorm and GT-HD. motorstorm is wicked for a 20min blast every now and again.

Because when you're playing at 4 in the morning and everyone is asleep you can't turn the volume up so you have to have a loud fan instead :/

I own one. Enough reason to buy one. If you wanna be cool like me.

Don't put him off. Nah, only joking :p

Tbh whatever games catalogue looks better to you atm. The ps3 is a good console but its games catalogue is sparse, online is free though and it has blu ray(im going to personally w8 to see which format wins before commiting).

360 has a very good games catalogue, it is a bit loud yes, but in all honesty i dont care when i'm playing anyway as you cant hear it over the tv speakers. Reliability is a question but ive had mine for a year and a half with no problems but others have had problems after a few months, so it does vary.

Go to a shop and try both consoles out and you'll know which one you want to get.

@thor: The reason I said "It seems to me PS3 is superior in every way currently" is because as you say consoles are for games and the PS3's Blur-ray and hardware makes it very good for games... its just that there arent many games for it :P

I cant see how blu-ray makes it very good for games...yes it has additional space but if games moved to blu-ray discs you would see a proportionate increase in the cost of ps3 games as blu-ray discs are expensive.

depends what games you like too

i didnt really like GOW and crackdown, and they are examples of the best games available on the 360.

im a counter strike addict. the ps3 is just for playing car games and maybe GTA4 when it comes out.

There isnt much between them really you can buy a xbox 360 premium + hd-dvd add-on with 4 games and a extra controller for 410 notes or a PS3 with a cable for 400 notes so for a start no one wins here .

Next comes games and this is where the xbox360 wins hands down with a good catalogue of top games but by the start of next year i would expect the PS3 to catch up a fair bit .

reliability and general use is where you can get different opinions and as far as xbox 360 goes they have had a lot of failures and so far the PS3 hasnt but i also know of some people that have had a xbox360 since launch and there still going strong i have had mine since march 2006 , the PS3 is supposed to run quieter but if you get a new xbox 360 with the benq drive it is quieter for sure , the dash , marketplace and xbox live are great in my opinion and are a real strong point of the console .

Blue-ray or HD-DVD is another hard one because there are plenty of fans of both media .

If i was you i would be slightly swayed towards PS3 as you said it would be for both movies and games but you will have to wait a bit for a bigger selection of games if you do get one .

Just for that reason I would only consider the PS3. the xbox with addon HD-DVD is just plain stupid in my opinion. Knowing x360 has reliability issues, I won't risk using it to watch movies. Beside, the PS3 looks more posh and likely to match your 37" HDTV or other expensive entertainment system better.

For gaming only, the x360 is most likely the better choice..... Probably for the moment as nobody knows what will happen in future.

I've got both.

PS3 looks better, is silent and built a hell of a lot better. The 360 has more games available for it and is cheaper. Your call :)

Personally I'd get the 360 now and a PS3 in afew months time unless you can get it cheap. I only bought it for one reason... £285 brand new sealed. Otherwise I would not have one, not yet anyway.

Am i the only one that thinks that sentence makes no sense?

And that is a really silly reason to buy a console
