PS3 problems...?

-i see so with my own upgraded hd in the ps3 i do a back up then reformat and default factory settings then take out.

-then put in original ps3 hd

Dunno if this has been mentioned but the backup utlility also backs up game installs which was like around 40Gb for me so you may want to delete these and just go through the install process again at the start of the game.

That would probably be the most reliable solution. Longest route but it'll definitely get all of your saved data and profile data onto your replacement PS3.

problem no 2 happened to me, it means the bluetooth receiver in your ps3 is going. got mine replaced by sony :)

tell em your pads unsync by themselves and won't sync back up even with the cable unless you switch it on/off again.

i emphasized that this was a huge problem because you can't save etc when this happens since you have to switch off the machine before you can resync any controller

edit- or yea just tell them its freezing, i got my replacement replaced like that too (although it was actually freezing :p)

do a back up - THEN REPLACE THE ORIGINAL DRIVE - then reformat and factory settings

other wise you are wiping your larger drive clean

But restoring wipes the ps3 harddrive anyway to make space for the backup data i thought? Even if it doesn't he'd end up with loads of duplicate data when he restored files he already has on the PS3 back to the PS3 if you see what i mean.

Streeteh whats this about 1 of the 5 DLC/PSN credits? I didnt do that and I already formatted. Is it a bad thing if I havent deactivated my PSN as you say?

Not the end of the world tbh mate, as i said in the email you have 5 credits. Every time you download something using your PSN account onto a 'new' PS3 it takes one of these credits. This means you can have your account registered on up to 5 PS3s at once, all with the DLC available to them. When you deactivate your PS3 it disables all of the DLC on that console tied to your account and refunds this used credit.

I think that Sony will refund you that credit when they replace your console anyway as they'll deactivate it themselves so don't worry. Even if they don't you'll still have 4 credits available to you so you'd need to make the same mistake 4 more times for it to become a problem. In order for that to happen you'll need to replace your PS3 4 more times which is... unlikely at worst.

In short, don't worry about it.

Did they ask how long you owned your PS3? I bought mine 2nd hand about a year ago and it doesn't read discs anymore now.

They did and they asked me to fax the receipt to them.
Streeteh did they do that to you? Tbh my conversation with them was quite heated. The muptard on the phone kept telling me that it could be a hard drive problem and it needs to be formatted and that will solve the problem.

Anyway bygones.

Thats the standard line now, as the firmware sits partly on the HDD now it can fix some issues, probably not yours though. The PS3 maybe registered on EU playstation page, ask the original owner if possible if not try yourself may help a bit.

Sorry not following you here please could you elaborate? Whats the significance of the PS3 being registered?
Cheers.

EDIT: Ah sorry you are answering the other guy I think arent you.

Tbh Im well hacked with the Sony guy. Its the first time I have been asked for the receipt (I previously returned a PSP after 4 months with no questions about receipt) which is fair enough, but make me feel like a liar. Furthermore, he said they will only repair it and not replace it.

Strange tbh, for me they just asked for the serial number and 'approximately, when did you buy it?'

How long ago was this?
By the way, I formatted the PS3 but my login details are still there. Is there a hard reset that needs to be done in addition to the format?

Yes, in the options menu there is something like 'return to factory settings' or something, can't remember the proper name. Basically as i explained a bit earlier all account details are stored on a flash chip within the PS3, not the harddrive so that needs to be wiped too via this return to default.

I had my problems about 4/5 months ago. I guess the recession losses Sony have seen have made em tighten their belts.
