PS3 should I/Shouldnt I?

erm, yes, my opinion, as much as your opinion is also inaccurate for many reasons, so please grow up and less of the "rolleyes" please!, thought you was more mature than that - just because i ain't agreeing with your comments.

Maybe I shouldn't have replied, but your comment of 'generic shooters on the 360' is incorrect. The only truly generic shooter that comes to mind is Blacksite (which is also on PS3 IIRC), the rest all offer something different.

Perhaps I am quicker to jump on some posts because of a lot of the **** I receive from certain, uneducated members of this forum, which I do. I put myself out there with my comments, I accept that, but I'm not afraid to state my opinion on any game, even if some may see it as an 'untouchable'.

Of course my opinion is different from others, but I wouldn't say different from most. A lot of my opinions are backed up by users who have bought the PS3 recently or major magazine publications. I'm lucky enough to have tried many, many games over the years. I have no bias in games, I pay for all my games and as a result I respect them equally, in the past when I haven't I've been quick to praise those I have bought over those I haven't which I think is the case for several users here.

I've learned a certain crowd don't agree with my opinions, most all have one thing in common (one-console only owners). I know you're not in this catagory.

This doesn't apply entirely to McManicMan.

One thing that does irk me is that I am more critical of things than other people (clearly), I don't accept moments of sloppyness but turn around and say "yeah, but this section of the game is good." If something isn't good I'll say something. If a game has its flaws, I'll say so.
Just because I can be brutally honest people should get off their high-horses and accept that something on their faithful console isn't actually that great.

And before people grill me for what I say because it's "only on the Playstation3" (which I know will come because I've been unfortunate enough to read some of the tripe from some members here) I have been hyper critical of Forza 2, Halo 3 and Lost Planet in the past, all of which have been hyped up as Exclusive, AAA titles on Xbox360. So it doesn't wash with me.

I'd never have guessed in a million years as it has little sense of speed. I thought it was 30fps all the time.
Nice to see they got the FPS high though.

In the earlier levels it doesnt have the sense of speed you get from the faster cars like the Ferraris, but its all relative TBH. Ive driven round a track at 100mph+ and it felt slower in some ways than going down the M1 at 70 (ish), so its hard to tell i guess. There's a few frame rate drops but i didnt find it a problem or that it chugged along, i think it may have been fixed as I didnt notice it in the new build i played the other week. Some racing games make it feel faster than it actually is so perhaps that's why you think that it feels slower than you thought. Anyway at least your comments (negative or positive) come from someone who has the played and owns the game rather than some people who have no experience of it and post others opinions or just random trolling. Be interesting to see how much the game engine has improved over the JPN version, i think it has but we'll find out in 3 days or so.

I did notice a lot of FPS dropping when my mate was playing, this was of course shortly before my GPU went **** up, it was getting more and more noticeable.
The FPS drops were evident again today, but you notice them a lot less when playing than you do when watching, so whether it was the same I don't know.

People are quick to criticize me on here msmalls, it's annoying as most people act like they know me before they know me and it's annoying (I'm sure some people know who they are). As you say, I have played the game and again, I will be playing the EU release, but I can't give an opinion it seems. Maybe they're a little close to the truth for some people.

AAA games in my eyes are must have titles, and the list below quoted by another poster I would argue that only uncharted possibly falls into that list.

  • Warhawk, - online battlefield type game with planes, vehicles etc
  • Uncharted - tombraider adventure game
  • RFoM - FPS
  • Rachet and Clank - Platform game
  • F1 CE - Driving
  • Tekken - Fighting
  • Hot Shots - Golf
  • MotorStorm - Offroad racing
  • Time Crisis - Arcade game

Im not trying to start an argument, yes I own a 360 and I love it to bits, other then the reliability issues that have dogged it, and the noise issues, it really is the best console iv had since the Snes & Dreamcast.

Some of the games that I would class as AAA titles for the 360

  • GOW - 3rd person/fps
  • FN3 - Boxing
  • COD4 - FPS
  • PGR4 - Racing
  • Mass Effect - RPG
  • Bioshock - FPS
  • GRAW 1 & 2 -Both FPS

As you can see I have highlighted the difference in the genere's of each game for each console(?). As I stated earlier if you prefer these types of games (FPS/RPG) then a PS3 isn't for you (at the moment anyway). In addition the 360 has more mature games unless their cross platform, with both Bioshock & GOW being 18, where as I don't think one of the PS3 you listed is above 15.
As I have small children this was one of the reason's I moved from the 360 to the PS3, as I've always found Sony's 1st/3rd party software to be more suitable to a family enviroment.

All the above are games I have enjoyed emensely, and in my eyes are must own, I was hoping the PS3 would have such impressive games by now, or at least some great games on the way. I really liked the look of 'Little Big Planet' but I havent heard any more on it, MGS4 initally interested me until the showed actual gameplay footage. Other the that I am not aware of any PS3 only titles on the horrizon that would sway me into buying one. I know its a great Bluray player, I also know its a pretty good media centre (but then so is the 360 bar the noise)

Like I said, im not trying to start a war here, im just not that clued up on the PS3 scene and was hoping I would get people saying, such and such is coming out next month, its a must have, a PS3 exclusive etc.

Must say was surprised you mentioned LBP, as this game was another reason I brought a PS3 :). I'm not in the slightest interested in MGS4 but am looking forward to Wipeout HD, Socom, & Haze which are all due out in the coming months (I believe), as well as Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2 & Killzone2 when they hopefully arrive later this year...

Got to say, I think you're absolutely spot on.
If I had a kid I'd buy him a PS3 as the games are, as you say, better suited.

As I'm sure you're aware, I'm not a fan of the FPS' on the PS3, but Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 look very promising. I'm hoping for something special, especially from the online aspect of the latter.

The PS3 is a brilliant console in its own right, anyone who says otherwise is a liar, it just comes down to whether the exclusive games now interest you (or perhaps if you're wanting to play a multi-format game on another console) or if you're happy to buy now and wait it out for the big-guns to arrive and dazzle.

Problem is, those shots tend not to be in game, more the 'gallery' shots.

Compare them to FM2 or PGR4 photo mode if you want...
They are replay shots which really just kill off the jaggies to a certain degree they dont alter the models or polygon count.

The cars are much much more detailed with better and more realistic colour depth in the lighting.

If what I've heard is true, the cars have twice the polygon count as PGR. Forza's cars were poor quality anyway, I said as much when it came out as they featured many modelling errors.

The difference in polygon counts between games are based around environments. PGR4 has much better environments, which is where the extra polygons have gone (as opposed to the cars like Gran Turismo). The long and short of it, Gran Turismo has better cars, Project Gotham Racing has better environments.

Ok, I'm just liking this thing more and more each day. My neighbour gave me an original PS so his kids could be entertained when they were visiting and I have about 30 games for it. I finally got around to testing the PS3 for backward compatibility. No problems at all!

+ It created a memory card on the hard drive so the older games would recognise it.
+ It upscales the older games to 1080p, full 16:9 format, with smoothing.
+ It detected all the Audio tracks on the Tekken disk, making them playable as regular audio, so we can totally funk out with Tekken music in the background!

I really really made a good purchase with this thing. I know, this is probably all old news to you folks, but I'm learning here. :)

The Asian one until I get my hands on the PAL one.
Is the PAL one even out yet?

Its just that a lot of the engine problems with the asian release have been rectified with the pal version.

Try that version ( out friday ) to get a better representation of the final product, and with a lot more cars etc ... the pal release is the best version and the asian release is the worst one to form a basis of the game upon.

I can only form an opinion on what I have played. Commenting on something not out yet does no good. My comments were all in relation to the Asian one and I will comment on the PAL version too :).

It had bugs it had online connection issues but its a joy to race...
The way the cars move/feel isnt bettered on any other console racer.

Of course having a G25 makes it much more fun and even compared to a Dual Shock 3 the game isnt half as good without a wheel.

well after much debate I have decided to buy one, as soon as Mr parcel force turns up with my new speakers im going to nip into town and get the Drakes Fortune pack for £299.

In the end the Blu ray sold it to me, along with the promise of Little big planet and eventually God of War. Other then Drakes Fortune I cant see me buying any of the current crop of games.

Is there any other bits I need to buy while im there other then maybe a second controller

Dont forget you will need a HDMI lead (unless you already have one), as for another controller import a DualShock 3 from Asia, works out about the same price as the UK RRP for a Sixaxis, but will take a week to get here.
As for the games I think you'll be making a mistake not considering any other PS3 games apart from Drakes, try some demo's and then decide. Also get some games from the PSN, Super Stardust HD, Tekken 5 DR, Pixel Junk monsters and Pain are all worth a purchase and probably cost lest than 1 full price game.
You say you like FPS and Racing games, GT5P is out today on PSN friday in stores, and the Ferrari Racing game is out middle of April. As for FPS Haze is out in May followed by Killzone 2 in September and Resistance 2 in November. All are PS3 (well HD console wise) exclusives.

cheers for all the info guys, I DS3 is a definate purchase I think, as is the Remote control. Ill be sure to pick up a HDMI lead while im there, I cant believe they dont give you one in the box the tight gits.

I will be sure to download all the demos as soon as its up and running.
