PS3 system update

Just off the top of my head
- Ability to read/reply/send messages to and from friends in game
- Ability to view friends list in game (and see what they're playing etc)
- Private chat support that works regardless of what each person is playing, just like 360
- Support for listening to your own mp3s etc while in game (a la 360)
- Ability to join a friends game straight from the XMB
- Ability to choose XMB background colour or set custom wallpaper like PSP
- More and/or custom avatars (admit, the existing ones are dire)
- Ability to play media (mp3/video etc) from a network share/location and or streaming from a PC
- Better file management (why do I have to put videos in a 'VIDEO' folder etc etc, why can I not just browse the drive)
- Scaling for bluray/dvds to 720p (does not affect me but affects a lot of people I know)
- Better PS2 game emulation. It sucks at the moment and the IQ is terrible

So you want the PS3 to be a 360 then :p

I have one of these adaptors that is an own brand off a purple place, bought ages ago for PC. I assume these are the same adaptors you get to make PS2 controllers work on PC (I bought one to use an old dualshock pad on my PC but never got around to it).

Let us know if it works.

while it isn't really that usefull, at least we get it now and don't have to wait 6 months for it like the twice yearly updates from LIVE

i tried expressing this point, i have both consoles and i am not a fanboy, i just thought that live should change its update policy to once a month or once every 3 months, because waiting 6 months is far too long, fanboys on the other hand thought it was too much hassle to update a console every month and that they hated doing updates because the servers go down for a few hours every time there is a new update, i dont think sony will be releasing an update every month just when they have made a decent number of changes to the system, but it shouls be at least one every 3-4 months

Just found this on IGN,

Game Watch reports that a few PlayStation titles will continue to work exclusively on the PSP for the time being. Sony has yet to specify which games will be cross compatible. PS3-ready downloads will begin on 4/26, so we'l have to check the PlayStation Store at that time.

So looks like we have to wait a week before the PS3 PS1 titles are ready, seems strange to wait a week after the update though.

can someone clear this up for me

these ps1 games do you need to buy them off the store? or do you put the original disc into the console?

then if you need to put the disc into the console why not just play them on your ps2, or ps1?

if you need to buy them off the store why bother? they are like 10 year old games and will look like crap. why not just buy a game for your psp which will have better graphics and be new

for example i saw tekken 2 (ps1 version) for the psp, whereas you can buy tekken dark ressurection for the psp which is a hell of a lot better

AFAIK you need to buy them but they are cheap.

I don't have a PS1 anymore so it will allow me to play PS1 games without having to get another console, yes they are crap graphics wise but there are plenty of games that are about gameplay ro puzzles.

I don't have a PSP and the games for that are more expensive and with a PSP you have limited choice, if you can doenload every PS1 title ever made that is a huge amount of games.

Regarding Tekken, why not buy Tekken 5 for a few quid ;)

You can only (legitimatly) play PS1 games you have downloaded from the PS store on your PSP.
The point in wanting them is they are cheap on the store, some folk don't have the original discs as they may have sold them. And you can play them on your PSP.
TBH i would rather pay 5 quid for a PS game i can play on my PSP and PS3, than pay 3-4 quid for a NES Game (Paperboy anyone?) that i can only play on the 360.

With live anywhere on the horizon you will be able to play Many (mybe all) live arcade games on any windows based machine (PC's tablets pda etc)

thread is turning the tide toward a fanboy war, xmb features are coming in the 2.0 update everything else will come with time as for the person wanting xvid support, dream on ! no console manufacturer will allow this as it most commonly used for pirated material, but if you want it that bad install linux on the machine

Thing is I don't think its actually been stated anywhere that the XMB access is coming in 2.0 (Unless I have missed this news).

If it's doable (technically) then no problem, but I would hate for people to assume we get this feature, when it isn't actually feasible.

I agree with regards to divx, it will never be added as an officially supported codec. The Massive majority of all the people who want to use it as a media centre but want to watch divx files on it just have loads of pirated content. Same issue with people who say they have 720P and 1080P files they wish to playback (chances are they are obtained by breaking some sort of copyright legislation). It seems those who want this functionality badly are happy to buy a 360 and use it with Windows Media Centre 2005 or Vista Home Premium/Ultimate.
