The res looks awful imo - and that's a static image. It looks like that when I play it.

Or..

Does that look okay and I am expecting too much? :o

that blatantly isnt being rendered at 1080p. did you try what i suggested? because that very much looks like its being rendered at 480/576p. i can make drake's fortune look the same by forcing it to 576p

put that foot down!

...and then run for the hills!

lol - you know how it is..! :p

Inoshishi - those screens you posted are a far cry from what I get.

Okay - I have some settings which I would like to run by you:

Settings > Game Settings:
PS Upscaler = OFF
PS Smoothing = OFF

Settings > Display settings: (currently set to 1080p)
Connector = HDMI
Setting method = Automatic
Settings List:
Connector Type HDMI
Resolution 576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p

Cross Colour Reduction Filter = OFF
RGB Full Range (HDMI) = LIMITED
Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super-White (HDMI) = OFF

Anything worth changing there?

difficult to tell. each game might be different. if its like ratchet and clank, it'll look worse. its really a try it and see. if you google for "cod4 720p" you'll find a few references to problems with 1080p output. its a weird issue i have to say, but they may fix it with an update at some point.

the PS upscaler and smoothing only apply to emulated ps1 and ps2 games:)

Thanks for all your help mate - I'm a happier man than I was 4 hours ago!

well you have a 37" tv, and i an guessing the resoluion is liek 13XX x 7XX

so why use a 1080p output. leave it at 720p.

and truthfully, to the naked eye, untill you go into 50" screens, or you sit like 3 m away from the tv screen, you cant tell the difference between 720p and 1080p

COD 4 running at 600p on both Xbox 360 and PS3

It has been found out that Call of Duty 4 is running at 1024x600p 2xAA on both the Xbox 360 and PS3. But who is going to really care when the game a) plays amazingly well and b) looks great!

quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

COD4 X360 = 1024x600p 2xAA again...
COD4 PS3 = 1024x600p 2xAA too...

exactly the same it's typically a X360 resolution (1024x600 is an anamorphic resolution use strictly on X360 for full the EDRAM) use on a PS3 game, it's strange this point than COD4 is a "X360 centric" game (the very bad compression of video point this too, or the difficulty to port the texture panel in the two PS3 memory pool) PS3 centric game = Uncharted

Ha! I was only saying to myself last night that there's no way CoD4 can look as good as it and run at 720p (especially on the PS3). It's getting slightly ridiculous as MS's rule of every game must run at 1280x720 is being disregarded left right and centre.

That was a target, but as long as people can't clearly tell, or it's necessary to change something to benefit something else hugely, then it doesn't matter. Call of Duty 4, for me, is the best looking game out even when compared to any 720p game.

Regards the PS3 i recommend you avoid automatic configuration as it doesnt always work that well and set manual settings for your HDMI display. Select 720p and 1080p for PS3 games. Your display will upscale to the highest possible res.

There was me scratching my head at some of the earlier replies wondering why some of you thought the game may run slower or look much different when set to1080 res.

Its about time a lot of the people on here learned that VERY FEW games on PS3 or indeed X360 will offer 1920x1080 games. Internal upscaling isnt native res and games such as Gran Turismo 4 have been using "pixel doubling" techniques even on the PS2.

GT5 is annother example promoting itself as 1080/60 giving the impression its a 1920x1080 game when indeed it isnt. False advertising, well you decide. Technically yes the signal is 720p or 1080 coming from your console, thats the HDTV standards.
The point though, is that COD4 is said to run at 60fps and by reducing the res a little below the common 1280x720 res probably made very little visual difference. However allowed the smoother framerate. Particulary when they counter the lower res with 2xAA then visually little is lost. Therefore add a little pixel doubling to increase the output to 720p res and rely oneach systems internal scaling hardware to then output at 720 or upscale again to1080 if desired.

Im sorry but id also agree that visually even on a 1080 display this game like many games will look almost identical on 720 or 1080 setting. Its obvious the OP originally had been experiencing it in a SD res output from the PS3 and was then being scaled by his TV as standard.
