PS3, worth it?

Auction site?

Nope, friend of a friend. We just got 2, my mate paid £300 with RR7 but he didnt have any other games, so I paid £285 without a game.

Theres no HD cable in the box is there? I have nothing to play on mine :( I still have my 360 though :)

I have to admit though, I am impressed with the sheer size and weight of the thing, its a beast. Just abit shiny aswel.

It weighs a ton and it's frickin' huge!

It doesn't come with a HD cable nay, you can get the ***E unofficial ones for a tenner. (Component)

Just to let you know, PS2 cables are compatible.......funny, that a certain high street video games retailer sells exactly the same component lead packaged as PS3 & PS2, but with a £3 differential in the price!

Personally, I bought a nice cheap HDMI cable from auction for only £5 delivered. :D

enjoy it, great piece of hardware, all the new ips coming up for autumn look excellent, along with the games everyone else gets plus home will be here aswell, great time to jump in.

Ok guys, I didn't even know but after checking the back of my samsung telly it does have HDMI even though for some reason I was sure it didn't. :)

Are all the HDMI cables the same quality or will there be a difference? Where's the best place to get one. Also, I need at least 1 game to test the damn thing :p so from the lack of decent games, which is the 1 game you have to have. I liked GOW for the 360 so I'm thinking resistance since people use to compare them both but is there anything else? I just want 1 game thats it for now :)

HDMI is digital so it either works flawlessly or not (basically)

Do not get a very cheap one but don't be tempted to spend more than a tenner either.

Thanks Dutch Guy, and for the game, what would you recommend?

Just checking my local computer store (ppl in manchester will know the one), their cheapest HDMI cable seems to be £12.33 and its 5m! The 2m ones are more expensive and out of the stock, and the next one they have available is Vivanco HDMI 3M High Quality Gold Plated for £24.56  Guess I'll have to buy a 5m one even though I only need 2m max!

As you've had/got a 360 already I'd say go for Rfom. If you haven't tried/had it already get Oblivion, best £40 I've spent in a long time and graphically it looks a lot better than the 360 version :)

Yep I've still got my 360 and I intend on keeping it, so would prefer to get a PS3 exclusive tbh. I remember seeing that video comparing GOW and RFOM and it didnt look too bad so I might just go for that.

Good choice, I really enjoyed the game and it's a lot longer than GOW although doesn't look as good.

The MP is also excellent :)

personally i'd buy a PS3 to play Motorstorm, but RfoM is maent to be pretty decent...

With the 1.80 update the PS3 now upscales PS2 games and DVD's and allows streaming off your home network which is cool.

iam certainly planning on getting a ps3 perhaps around autumn. i was planning on getting a wii but i had the chance to borrow one and wasn't impressed at all so with a bit more saving il have a ps3.

my huge ps2 game catalogue is currently shouting at me just because of the 1.8 firmware update, a couple more updates like that and a few more games and the ps3's only downside would be the relatively high price.

I just got a HDMI cable and motorstorm, had a quick blast and it looks very good I must say. Plays very well aswel and seems quite addictive :)

I only have Motorstorm and RFOM, I like Motorstorm although it can be frustrating sometimes losing it just before the finishline.

RFOM is difficult for me as I just can't get used to aiming with a controller instead of a mouse.

I was exatcly the same as you to begin with! Playing 5 years FPS with mouse then going to this PS3 Controller sucks! lol, seriously though it just takes time to get used to it! Im getting better but when an alien thingy pops out my aim is pants!!!

Regarding buying a PS3 go for it! I love mine and only bought one becuase I passed my dissertation and uni modules LOL now im hooked on R:FoM and Motostorm! I also downloaded the F1 demo to trial and that looks superb at 1080i! :D All good!

I used to play to an incredibly high standard in Counter-Strike (i.e. consistently against top5 clans in the country and top foreign sides), this also stands true for Counter-Strike Source, for which I played for the top side in the country.
I was a massive fan of Quake 3 Arena, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2003/2004 and every Battlefield game, including Desert Combat.

Now, this wasn't meant as bragging, but it give you an idea of my gaming pedigree on PC in a competative arena, and also an idea of how much time I put into using a mouse and keyboard.

But my point is, anyone who says they 'can't get used to it' is talking rubbish. Yes it's different, no doubt about that, but people who aren't getting used to it aren't trying hard enough. Games on consoles are modified for use with a pad, playing them with a mouse and keyboard would make it dull and boring.

I disagree, i never managed to get used to FPS on Playstation due to the stick layout and how loose the stick is. I can play well enough to get by, but nowhere near the level I can play on Xbox shooters, just much better stick quality IMO.
