PSP or DS?

If your sis already has a DS isnt this thread kinda pointless, all you need to do is borrow it, play it and see what u think.

I was considering buying one for myself but I think I'll just go for the PSP now so it's basically turned inot a PSP info thread.

One thing I was thinking of..... is it still possible to get the original PSP model in shops?

I like case modding and there are more parts available for the original than the slim.

Not new, but preowned yes

PSP Fat can be had for about £60 second hand, but if i was going to get a new PSP i would see when the PSP-3000 is released, the screen looks 10x better int erms of brightness and has much more colours.

I wouldn't worry about buying now, the screen is already excellent and that comparison pic of the PSP-3000 seems rubbish to me, mine looks just as colourful to me. :/

Some more PSP games you might like to consider: Crush, World Championship Snooker 07 (played this to to death), Virtua Tennis 3, and another vote for God of War.

Bought a pre-owned PSP from the purple store today only to find that it won't find my memory stick from my old K750i.

I tried reformatting it on my phone but it still won't see it and it's not exactly easy to insert it into the PSP and I need to use tweezers to remove it so it's a dead cert that it's banjaxed in the memory stick department which makes the whole console pretty useless, hence, it shall be returned tommorow. (If it's open)

Will they take it back as it's pre-owned? I only just bought it an hour ago as a pre-owned bundle with a game. Came without a box but with charger. It's the Slim version.

Faulty goods, they should atleast replace it with another "pre-owned" console but make sure it works before you leave.

If it won't read Memory cards, surely they'll have to take it back. It's not in a fully working condition.

The battery was dead when I bought it so couldn't test it. They also would have had to provide a memory card for me to have been able to test this so I can't see how they could get out of this one.

EDIT: Also, I was going to buy the original model at first but the best one they had was covered in scrapes so I stumped up the extra £25 for the Slim.

Really Interesting thread.

Am interested in getting a PSP as soon will be commuting an hour via Train to work and back and wanted some kind of smart device for Media playback. Since it already has Video & Music playback built in, and can play games (lol), thats the main bases covered. Was also looking for software that can do some simple document viewing so can read e-books or keep a copy of a finance spreadsheet ect handy.

Can anyone shed some light on the Custom Firmware aspect of the PSP though? As in, whats the best to go for and what do they offer? Besides emulators, what kind of software is availble to the PSP?

So anychance of a text file reader, or even a PDF reader?
Simple Spreadsheet program?

The main reason people use a custom firmware, is for piracy, its always dressed up with homebrew/emulation as the reason why people do it though.

I'm sure you're probably right, but the past few days I've been reading the PSP threads, and decided I wouldn't mind giving a custom firmware a try.

I've got 13 UMD games so far, and the thought of being able to install some of my favourites to the memory stick, so I don't have to change disks, or take so many disks with me when I take the PSP out, not to mention extending the battery life, and faster loading, are just too appealing for me at the moment.

I've no intention of conducting any piracy, just installing some of the games I've already bought to my memory stick. I have a few "quick blast" games, such as Space Invaders Extreme and Capcom Collection, and I have a number of games with a story I'm making my way through, when I have more time. So it would be handy for me to be able to leave the bigger/story game in the UMD drive, and have a few quick blast games always on the memory stick for when I have 10 mins between doing things.

I've only not done it yet, as I know nothing about it, and don't want to brick my PSP, but I'm going to start looking into it this week I think, so long as I don't lose any of the functionality of the official firmwares that come out.

So yes, I'm sure a fair few people install custom firmware with piracy in mind, but for me, the ability to run games straight from the memory stick is exactly what I'm after, and I'd consider it a godsend!

Vin.

I know there are benefits, and im sure there is the odd person that would do that, but in the main, piracy is the main reason people would do it for.

Once somethings flashed/chipped though, it does become very easy to just say "ach, ill just download this". I find as soon as i pirated games, i stop getting fun from them.

As Margaret has said previously, he downloads all the games, but dosent play any of them because they are all rubbish, many games dont hook you instantly, pirating you tend to leave them, but investing in them you persevere and sometimes find a cracker of a game.
