So you have an OC'ed quad core CPU, an ROG motherboard and a budget PSU??
It's not just about their reliability, about it's their efficiency too. Since we are talking about saving, an unbranded PSU which is rated less than 80% will cost you more to run long term, than say one that's 90%. If you are into buying PC components, then you [When i say you .. i don't mean you i mean generally] must understand that you can't skimp on the PSU. Pointless spending ££££ on a new graphics card or CPU yet not prepared to invest in a decent branded PSU.
As a PC technician, I would avoid tampering around with the PSU.. not a unless you have the correct discharging equipment..
