PSU Noise

Honestly get that XFX psu, it's so damn good and the price for it is one of the best i've ever seen for a psu of it's quality.

I wouldn't even use that alphapower psu if i were you in a pc like you have....all your components could die if it blows whereas a decent branded one wouldn't do that if it died.

For any PSU im gunna have to save. Ive had this PSU a while and its not blown so im sure it will last until i can get a decent one.

Mind you, i might ask at college thay have a few corsair PSU's lying around.

So you have an OC'ed quad core CPU, an ROG motherboard and a budget PSU??

It's not just about their reliability, about it's their efficiency too. Since we are talking about saving, an unbranded PSU which is rated less than 80% will cost you more to run long term, than say one that's 90%. If you are into buying PC components, then you [When i say you .. i don't mean you i mean generally] must understand that you can't skimp on the PSU. Pointless spending ££££ on a new graphics card or CPU yet not prepared to invest in a decent branded PSU.

As a PC technician, I would avoid tampering around with the PSU.. not a unless you have the correct discharging equipment..

Do a search for Fanless PSU's there aren't any that don't have a fan but some that run cool only kicking in the fan when necessary, and the fan is as big as the case so turns quite slowly. Not allowed to put competitors links here but there are some places on-line that specialise in quiet components for PC's. Then see if OCUK sell what you find and if not ask.

Andi.
