PSVR launching October @ £349

I've tried the Gear VR, Rift and Vive and wear glasses, never had a problem with either. Of the 3 though the Rift was the only one that doesn't let me adjust the distance from the lenses so not as comfortable as the Gear VR or Vive in that regard.

I got mine it with a guaranteed delivery date of 3rd October.

Looks like you can still pre-order, but no guaranteed date?

Hmmm just realised theres no launch day shipping unless you go expedited (standard was the 5th for me). Might have to go Prime nearer the time to ensure it turns up...

ps3ud0

You can get a VR capable graphics card for about £250 - a GTX970. You could legitimately assume that people who would be interested in PS VR would already have a PS4. Same goes for those who are interested in PC VR would likely have a PC. Maybe they don't have a GPU though.

Therefore,
  • £349 (PS VR) + £35 (Cam) + £50 (move controllers retail) = £434
  • £329 (PS4) + £349 (PS VR) + £35 (Cam) + £50 (move controllers retail) = £763
  • £250 (GPU) + £500 (Oculus) = £750

So, to get a VR experience on the PC is about twice as expensive as on the PS4

If you didn't have a PS4, it would be about a tenner more expensive for the PS4 option (again assuming you had a PC to put the GPU into).

So it comes to the fidelity of the experience.

  • PSVR = 1,920 by 1,080 @ 120hz, 100 degree FoV
  • Vive = 2,160 by 1,200 @ 90hz, 110 degree FoV
  • Rift = 2,160 by 1,200 @ 90hz, 110 degree FoV
  • Sulon = 2,560 by 1,440 @??, ?? FoV

The Vive and Oculus are higher resolution, but lower refresh rate.

I really think this is very canny pricing on Sony's part. There will always be the enthusiasts who will want the highest fidelity VR experience money can offer. But for the mainstream, this is fanstastic.

Got my Amazon order in 10:59 for 3rd October also.

You could load the page and add to the basket early (10:40 I started checkout), which I thought was odd but maybe the 11AM was an hour ahead? Inconsequential rambling!

Spot35, don't forget the price of the rest of the system, which makes the PS4VR even better value! :)

True, but I did put the assumption that those interested in the Vive or Oculus would likely have a base system, but maybe not the GPU.

I still think the PS VR is much better value, but the fidelity will be what sells it for me. I've still got my eye on the Vive...

Very interested to see how this goes - especially previews in comparison to AMD and the rest considering the different FOV's / resolution /frame rate

Its a good price point, and while the camera and move controllers are already available separately I still think its bizarre for Sony not to package everything in together for ~£50 more or even less (especially given UK pricing is already more expensive).

The fact is that this is going to inspire more people onto the PS4 and also a lot more people in to the camera - Im sure the % of those who already have a camera is going to be pretty small in comparison.

The other consideration is of course its a chance for Sony to sell more camera's at full price (even though they are probably a lot cheaper to produce now than when they were first released, so therefore should be cheaper to buy also).
