Pub / Bar for Date

One of my friends is recommending to me the Roadhouse in Covent garden.

I've never been and am worried about queuing to get in etc... very unsexy waiting around outside in the cold and rain.

Met her only once before. Two weeks ago. That was at a club. So first date.

ah OK, but unlike say an internet date you know you like her etc.. so won't be looking to make a swift exit after one drink or too fussed about shelling out for cocktails if you just want to get out of there

in which case I'd suggest cocktail bar, some ideas:

http://www.cellardoor.biz/ if you get there early enough - tis in an former toilet and very small, they have different acts on each night too and free popcorn!

(though if full then can easily just head to the lobby bar at One Aldwych - someone else recommended it on here once, supposedly one of the best bars in the world... tbh it does look nice and has poncy cocktails it also had zero atmosphere and is still basically a hotel bar. Could be good for a date though if you want a nice quiet venue where you've got space to sit down and talk)

alternatively maybe London Cocktail Club - you have to join in advance online:

http://www.londoncocktailclub.co.uk/

or in the city there is the bar under the breakfast club too - think you still have to say a 'secret' password 'I'm here to see the mayor' you then get led to a SMEG fridge that is actually a hidden door and down some stairs. Bit gimmicky but could be fun - might be worth booking in advance but could well be OK if just two of you.

EDIT:

You can literally pick a radius on a map and pick a pub to go to. There'll be lots of nice ones around Kings X. :)
