Is there some documentation of just what sort of emergency will be deemed serious enough to transmit these warnings? Are they national emergencies? Limited to each country of the British Isles, or are we lumped together for these warnings?

Sky are living in the future.

Its the 2109 Australian Grand Prix and Lewis Hamilton is still trying to get that 8th World Title.......

There have been contingencies put in place around sporting events, the time has been chosen to avoid the FA Cup Semi's, the snooker should be interesting - refereeing going mad at the entire crowd saying "put off your phone"

They can be very localised, they can trigger them down to individual cell towers.

Ok, what you are politely telling me to do, and with total justification in this case of rank idleness on my part, is to "RTFM" :)

All is clear now, thank you.

I have even managed to reply to you, Feek, when I meant it for 200sols, is this the start of "one of those days"? :(

I get these alerts all the time in S.Korea. Usually messages like the air is really dry so be careful outside as it can damage your throat or there’s lots of rain so watch out for flooding.

This is what I am afraid of, in this country where you'll probably soon need certification to push a wheelbarrow I have zero faith in governments not using this for trivial stuff to the point it becomes a "cry wolf" issue.

If they use Class 0 SMS to send these alerts, Airplane Mode or removing the SIM is the only way to avoid them in real time.

Even then, the SMSC will spot when your phone re-registers on your HPLMN and send it to you then.

Great, I'm on call a lot so if i get woken up theres probably no way i'll get back to sleep again, Adrenaline hit when the phone goes in the middle of the night means its usually hours before I can sleep again..

I'll accept that if its genuine risk to life emergancies. But if i get notifications that its raining i'll not be too impressed.

Could just turn off the 'severe' level alerts and only leave 'extreme' ones on if you find what they class as severe isn't severe enough for you to be bothered about.

Surely turning off the emergency alerts in the settings will do it? That's presumably the system they're using.
