pull up bars ?

i dont trust nothing you hook over a door.

Why not? Simply a case of leverage here, if you're pulling down on it then it holds more tightly onto the doorframe so no chance of slippage unless your entire doorframe goes.

I've used the cheap catalogue ones before that have screw in cups to hold them in place but I suppose it depends on what your landlord thinks (if you don't own your own place) whether you can use them.

//edit my gym has something very similar to what Dr.EM posted and although it creaks a bit it is a very solid piece of kit and supports way above the 100kg mark - 125kg I've seen but it looks to be capable of supporting more.

No problem, had it bookmarked because I wanted one for uni (couldn't take home-made one, too big). Let me know what you think if you buy it, I may still need one at some point :)

I wrote about the powerbar in the gym rats thread, it's a really good bar!

Another recommendation for the Powerbar

Got mine the other day and well impressed, able to do proper wide pull-ups that you wouldn't be able to do with the cheaper pull-up bars that fit between the door frame.
