Punk Rock

From 1977-79, the bands I bought records of and saw live.

Sex Pistols
The Clash
The Buzzcocks
The Stranglers
Sham 69
Eater
The Ruts
The Vibrators
The Damned
The Boomtown Rats
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Poly Styrene
Wayne County and the Electric Chairs

Don't forget he had his tackle off and called himself Jayne County.

Did you ever go down the Inset in Stoke or Top Of The World in Stafford during those years?
Viccy Hall for me. I was the big bloke with orange hair and a blue striped mohair jumper :D

This thread has made me upload some of my Sex Pistols bootlegs to YouTube:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=W-dZx31g3Xw - Problems (Demo)
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fTtVCzEDVVU - Anarchy in the UK (Live)
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=--3IOWYwc7g - No Feelings Instrumental

There are only three there but I am considering uploading everything I have (which is quite a lot) as apart from the low quality video I posted earlier I have never come across anything I have on YouTube.

Now you can clearly hear the true funky sound of the Pistols.

I hate punk music incase you hadn't realised.

Lonnie was tall with long hair and a beard? Had a record shop in Stoke if I recall correctly?

Thats him, probably one of the most recognised people in Stoke, a beautiful person and still has a radio show on Radio Stoke.
I played in his band for a while and we had to turn the volume down on his guitar because he wasn't that good.

I totally agree with you 100% because I still remember walking into Mike Lloyds and buying the first single because it was Heavy Rock.
In fact, I only heard the B side and didn't play the A side until I got home.
Shortly after Anarchy came out the media went wild and all of a sudden Punk was born and like Mohinder said : You don't choose your own genre.
I NEVER felt that the Sex Pistols were a punk band.
Even KISS tipped their hats towards them by naming an album Love Gun.

I first bought Never Mind the ******** expecting to hear "the definitive punk sound" - imagine my surprise when I realised they're really a rock band. And a pretty damn good one for the time as well (and even now). I mean, I'd heard the usual tracks, but when I actually sat down and listened, I soon realised they're not what I'd call punk.

On that note, the only "punk" music I own is pop-punk like Green Day and The Offspring, but I'd definitely call The Sex Pistols rock :D

Other than that, sorry OP, can't help ya. Just listen to whatever dmpoole said - he's always talking sense in here.

Everyone should listen too American Nightmare/Give Up the Ghost.

They were a seriously awesome band.

Too easy ;)

Ahh... and AFI is not on anyone's list!

meh, sometimes it's fun to shoot fish in a barrel!

AFI are more goth punk really, though the last album of theirs I heard was really good. The one with girls not grey on.
