Purchased Bioshock through Russian CD key seller....help

I've never seen any proof that CJS etc are legit or not legit. Are GMG really legit?

An idiot can answer that one... so I will oblige:

CJ's are not legit and neither is anyone else dealing in grey market products. By definition, the fact they are grey market means in the eyes of the publisher, they are NOT legit.

Green Man Gaming are legit. Email Sega for example and ask them if GMG are an authorised reseller of their products. Ask them about CJ's too - lol.

How much did you pay for it ?

Not enough to make it worth the hassle but some people will do anything to save a few quid without questioning why it is cheaper or what recourse they have if it goes wrong.

If buying something from a "man with a dog", since when did the man with the dog give you a refund because you do not like the way it works.

Are GMG really legit? Who knows and we will never know but people use them and their keys work.

Of course they're legit, everyone knows that. If you're having to start using VPNs or whatnot to activate the games you're buying from these CD key sellers, it should be pretty obvious that something isn't quite right.

I'd being opening up utorrent and downloading a copy. Why pay twice when the publisher has already had your cash?

Normally I'd agree, however it's been stated countless times, even by Valve themselves to only buy from reputable sellers, and buy the correct version for your region.

Lesson learnt.

Also just as an FYI, if you want games cheaper, look on members market, there is bound to be a few keys knocking about on the cheap, especially if they're given away as part of an AMD bundle.

Its just that you buy a game thats meant for a differnet region thats all.
Why people think that Russia is any dodgier that any other country is a bit silly.
Everyone knows we are getting ripped off re prices for goods in this country, that why people look else where and good luck to them.
Of course theres a certain element of risk in it, but you pay your money and take your chances

If he paid a quid yea

Is it multiplayer, thats the best part of a game sometimes.

As an act of Buddhist renunciation I suggest you donate the game / account to a Russian orphanage and wait till its on offer many years from now for a fiver and/or the solution above

I bought Hitman from them a few weeks ago and works fine. They list the games that need vpn for activation but for this one they didn't.

Yes, lesson learned - I won't be using them again!

Theres no proof they are legit, anyone can create a website and say they were legit....honest we are. So they have a fancy website, dosent mean they get their products from legit sources.

Besides, not all the keys you buy from these 'grey' sellers as people are calling them have to have a VPN. All the Steam/Origin keys I have bought from various sites such as CJS do not need a VPN. They activate fine, the only reason I havent bought a Russian key is cos anything to do with Russia is basically dodgy IMO and I cant be bothered with VPNs. Id rather pay a couple more quid and get a worldwide/region free key or whatever they are called. It still works out cheaper than buying from Steam/Origin direct.

Do you need the VPN the whole time? Can you not use the VPN to download the game fully, launch the game and play it for the first time and then disable the VPN? Or does the VPN need to be enabled every time you want to play it?

As already said, in the future be careful where you buy keys, you can buy keys cheap from various key sellers that are apparently not certified, eg CJS Keys springs to mind cos a lot of people don't buy from them when actually they are legit and work fine. I have bought from CJS and other places before with no problems. Just look for key sellers that sell EU / region free /worldwide keys. Any mention of Russian then stay well away.

The vpn pretty much needs to be running all the time but it does need to be on BEFORE you login to steam. If steam is already running you need to come out of it completly, activate the vpn, run steam, launch the game then you can turn if off. I bought Skyrim on cjs which was a russian version and its a song and dance getting a vpn going given i'm using free ones. Also it doesn't always have be Russian, Ukraineian works as well.
