Put your heating on yet

Heating thermostat hasnt been adjusted for winter yet as I have only just started using the closing windows trick to keep the house warmer. When it is too cold with the windows closed I will amend the thermostat accordingly.

Since I like my home at 21 degrees the thermostat has had the heating on for the last few weeks.

Wuss!

Ours clicked on for the first time on Monday when the living room dropped to 17 degrees. We were hoping to last until the end of October but the first ice on the car windows was a sign that wasn't going to happen.

Whacked mine on for the first time yesterday when I got in from work as the thermostat was reading about 15.6c. Put it to 18c and it warmed the house fairly quickly then knocked itself off. Came back on for about 10 mins at about 8 as it had dipped below that then I turned it off as we get ready for bed around 9ish anyway.

I don't bother having it on a timer as I really dont see the point in heating the house up when we aren't in it and it only takes 5-10 mins to warm the house when you turn it on manually. We don't need it in the morning as we get up and are quickly out at 6.10am to the gym and then we get home around 5.00pm.

We have an open plan downstairs and we're usually cooking from 5:30-6:30pm maybe longer so this does a good job of warming the area, pls we usually have our dressing gowns on in the evening with thick slippers so unless its really chilly we don't use it too much!

I do still have a log burner firmly in my sights though!

We should do a poll based on whether your heating is on and how old your house is.
Given the fact that i have the heating on in my 125+ year old house. And i bet that most that don't have their heating on or just leave it to the thermostat are in a in a well insulated house that's younger than say 30 years.

Would be interesting to see.

I'm in a 1930's semi which to the best of my knowledge has had cavity wall insulation. Never bother with timing the thermostat really. Think its set to come on if it goes below 13/14c just as a precaution.

and location...

nope heating still off thermostat set at minimum popped it on for 20 min this weekend to make sure it works and the rads get warm but other than that not at all. Still sleeping with a ceiling fan on

Walked into my office this morning to what can only be described as a blazing inferno. My jobs previous incumbent must have been a cold person - it was set to the highest and over night the heating came on.

Quick turn down to "Off" and it's only now getting to a nice temperature.

Nope. Not felt the need just yet, the temp has been just fine. I put it on for 30 mins the other day to dry some clothing, but that doesn't count :)

Yes.....because I live in Aberdeen lol.

I have a smart thermostat anyway so it turns on and off as required throughout the year.

Yes but only because there's an 11 month old baby in the house, if she wasn't around then it wouldn't be going on at all for a while yet.

I live with a woman so obviously
Want to swap?
Mine won't put it on until at least November and then only when I point out that room temperatures are in single digits... We only have storage heating and it "costs a bloody fortune" apparently - Condensation on my PC will cost more, but she doesn't care about that.

She'll happily put the log fire on in the lounge though, since muggins here has to chop all the firewood and lug it in... I even have to lay and light it, since she has no pyromaniac skills whatsoever.

Jeez... just my luck to have married the only Viking shieldmaiden that can't hit **** with an axe or manage to burn a single village!!!
