Q6600 B3 to G0, worth it??

As per title guys, would it be worth swapping out my B3 for a G0?

I can get 3ghz out of my B3 at 1.35v, but it generates a lot of heat (low 70's on the hottest core) and I HATE system noise, so can't use a louder HS than I have now (ACF7Pro)

I might be able to pick one up at the right price and basically lose very little if I flog the B3 on that popular auction site ;)

So, would it be worth it, and what sort of reduction in temps could I expect?

Cheers

Well, my G0 is set up like this for daily use:

3.4GHz (378x9)
Vcore on a rock solid 1.352
Load temps 60 62 57 58
TT Big Typhoon with lapped HS.

So you make your own judgments from that.

a decent CPU tower cooler like an Ultra-120 with a low speed fan will be a lot better than that AC7. Bigger fan = more air for less noise.

Yeah, my problem though is that I don't think I have the room in my case for anything much bigger than the AC7.

Thanks for the other replies guys, reckon I am going to go for it!

Got a B3 myself and contemplating the change to G0 just for temps.

TT120 idle @ 3ghz 39-43c
at load they go up to around 60-70c

Thats using 1.25v

How much of a higher clock would I get from a B0 then and is the difference noticeable that much in games mostly and 3ds max when I'm working but that is ram dependant really!

Just seeing if £40-50 is worth B3 -> G0 which will probably be 0.4ghz per core increase?

3.4ghz should be doable.

TBH I wouldn't bother

Yeah its what I'm thinking, if it is 400-600mhz for £50 and there isn't much real world difference except for benching then it might not be worth it!

Im just fussy and always after the best :D

Man B3's really need water for decent overclock-

That's 4 Folding clients running within two VMWare VMs. Prime95 temps are another 6-7c higher.

Ask yourself one question...

Will you really notice?

You might when you look at cpu-z :p but in the real world I doubt it.
