I've not got around to lapping mine yet, even though I do all my chips.
I thought I would start this thread to help others decide if they wanna do theirs.

Can you all report back on the details listed below?

Cooling (Named hsf/Waterblock)
Temps before lapping (4 core stress)
Temps after lapping (4 core stress)
Clock Speed
Vcore
m/b temps

If I've missed something please shout up.

Ok guys i decided to lap my new Q6600 GO L720B058 pack date 15/08/07 even though it viods the warrenty once again.

my findings at the same speed same Core voltage ect ect

before lapping all temps are speedfan taken so you must add 15c to each core temp.

22c
22c
18c
21c

CPU 28c

After lapping

15c
15c
11c
13c

CPU 21c

The ICH on this go was high one side, took 3 hours to lap it flat. and as its just been re-mounted with my d-tek fuzion i expect the temps to still drop 1 or 2c

Lapping your ICH can help temps

BUT BE WARNED YOU VOID YOUR CPU WARRENTY BY DOING SO!

Very nice results there bud.

Superb results, tell me, did you lap your D-tek?

I did mine, and it only took about 5 mins before it was flat

I'm not going to bother with my load temps at 55c full load @ 3.6ghz there is no point for me.

I'll be ditching for penryn anyway probably.

well i left the d-tek fuzion as it was, its very good to start with. just lapped the CPU ICH and it does show in the temps.

well you have good temps to start with so i would agree, and yes penryn just round the corner, will be intresting seeing what they can do. early cores might not be as good as later ones so i may wait a while and see whats cooking before i switch to penryn. perhaps penryn/X38/G92/DDR3 sounds like a future upgrade. very pleased with the results of the laping though.

I'd love to lap my Q6600, and get those temps down a bit, same for the base of my Tuniq Tower, but I just wouldnt know where to start or the technique to use, and its an expensive lesson to learn :p

Well I did it!

I went into bios and increased the vcore for testing.

Pre lapping

3.6 ... 9 x400

1.5 in bios, real 1.47, underload 1.45

10 mins of prime

cpu reached 72
core using core temp 68.67.62.62

After lapping same vcore and same 10 mins prime

cpu reached 68
66.65.60.60

so, not a lot really, but mx-1 takes 24-48 hrs to bed in, so I do expect it to drop again

Set the cpu back to 1.45 real 1.41 drop 1.39

cpu 62-64
core 59.58.54.54

So there is a slight drop

Let me tell you m8 it's sooooo simple you won't believe it......as long as you have a thick piece of glass like a bathroom mirror it's simple and straightforward....mine looked flat before i lapped it!....not reduced much in temps i'd say about 3c but every little help's....here's a pic.half way through.

it's kind of pointless posting results, lapping works but it depends on how bad the IHS is to start with and the skill of the lapper.

to the guy above, i'd rather my warranty than 3c but as we know there be no guarantees :p

CPU temps after lapping and useing artic ceramic thermal paste.

not bad at all for 3.6g at 1.3625v bios 3 cores all the same and one with a delta of 3

remeber these are speedfan temps and you must add 15c

TiZoR can we see a coretemp ss?

idle and core under load

Iam useing vista X64 so core temp dont work, just add 15c to speedfan temps and the above temps are at idle

30 mins prime small fts at load

This is a lapping thread no?....and As we all know Overclocking voids warranty anyway!....so there is no warranty to keep or are you one of those who would burn out your cpu and return it?....but it is a rare thing to have a chip die on you anyway....and if it did i would replace it!....3c i'm happy with any reduced temp and it's sure better than a poke in eye!.

or are you one of those who would burn out your cpu and return it?....

LoL, if my CPU dies , clocked or not im going to return it.

Well obviously if it died unclocked you would send it back lol....BUT Nice too see there are people like you about:eek:....buy something break it and then take it back....hope you got it from OCUK...and in the unlikely event something did happen....perhaps OCUK could assist you. lol:D

Not that there's much chance of a cpu dieing anyway!.:)
