I tried that at ocuk when there were some excellent stepping AMD X2 3800s knocking about, they looked at me like I was a leper.

That guide. There's no difference, the guarenteed CPU is just off the shelf like the standard one.
i always wondered about the q6600 cpu's i now know that they all come with vid 1.325 on the box, intels max reccomended according to packaging. my q6600 has a vid of 1.2750, system at 3.0ghz 1.3v set in bios. are theese guaranteed chips really worth the extra.
You missed one important thing. the right for them to return the cpu if the speed can't be reached. Which is a huge cost to ocuk.
If I remember rightly the chips aren't even tested to run at those speeds, they're normal Q6600s off the shelf, its simply you're paying £50 for the right to return it if it doesn't.

Works whatever you have.
If you need more guidance /specific tweeks (which are only really necessary for gatting the last out of you cpu like 3.8Ghz) see this thread:

Lastly if you search the forums and you have a popular mobo you can find additional info on overclocking your mobo.
Just search "official <insert motherboard here> overclocking thread"
Hope that helps
