Q6600 not Prime stable @ stock :o(

Thanks for your help so far guys, i'm gonna resume tomoro nite, starting with the CMOS. I can barely keep my eyes opn! Had a good NYE ;o)

Cheers

I'd just like to say that there is probably nothing wrong with your setup. Older versions of Prime95 cause the problem you describe on some newer systems (this includes the last official release on their site main page, and Orthos etc). You should find that running the newer Prime95 beta will cause no such issue when running the blend test, plus allows you to use multiple cores more easily.

I'd agree with this but i've got the very latest Prime95 (v255a). Plus the version on that link doesn't download.

I'm hoping it is a problem with Prime95 to be honest because i can't see what else is wrong when the CPU seems to do so well when just using small FTTs.

OCCT is a bitch of a stress tester, if that doesn’t detected an error your hardware is good.

Also prime shouldn’t lock up like that, well it can do but only with very unstable systems which OCCT proves yours is certainly not.

How do 3d apps work? games are great at picking out issues with memory.

My second machine, which is a P35 DQ6 has a similar strange problem

If i run the memory at anything above 1.8 volts it will cause errors in memtest

stick the memory at 1.8 and it runs fine all the time. The memory is rated at 2.2

Set at 1.8v in the bios, but any idea of actual Vdimm its running?

As yantorsen says, gigabyte boards overvolt the ram, but really that much?

I’m getting a little paranoid about Ballistix ram now, how about trying what Coolasmoo has done?
