q6600 OC

Got my Q6600 sitting at 3.6ghz (400x9 @ 1.45v) and 4gb Geil black dragon memory at 1066mhz. (2.1v).

Using an akasa venom CPU cooler.

Temps are not too bad, idles at 40 ish and peaks at 65-70. Great considering I have Got this in a fractal define r3 with barely any airflow and all fans running at about 900rpm so nice a quiet. (Sythe GT's mind you ;))

That is great

Hell, seeing as this is my backup, backup, backup rig (already got my X79 rig, my X58 rig, and my Mac Pro), I might see if I can crack 4GHz with it, one last hurrah and all that jazz!

I've never really bothered pushing it that hard before.

At the moment it's running on it's own watercooling loop, with a EK Supreme LTX block, EK DCP 4.0 Pump, XSPC 240 radiator, and a phobya single-bay res.

Runs pretty cool though, idling around 35ºc and loads (with IBT 100%) at 70ºc.

Got it at 3.8GHz now, going to try a 3DMark Vantage run to see if it's stable enough. It got through IBT though, so fingers crossed!

The "core voltage" field in CPUz doesn't report correctly for Q6600s, it just reports the default VID.

1.475v was needed for 4GHz to get into windows.

That's strange cause mine shows the idle and load voltage in cpuz.

Bios vcore is 1.40v
Idle voltage is 1.376v
Load voltage 1.360v
llc enabled.

This is for [email protected] (VID 1.2625v) although I have enabled EIST and C1E

Mine certainly never changes, just a static line of text, infact on a proper screenshot (rather than the generated on on the validate link), it even says VID rather than Core Voltage as the cell header.

You are on an older version of CPUz, or it might be a strangeness with my motherboard/x38 chipset.

Nowhere near that rig at the moment (about 10 miles away from it), so no more until tomorrow now, but I doubt it's memory related. I will try though.

It'll be your board, VID is what the cpu wants, core voltage is what its getting/set to and thats read off the board sensor not the cpu. For instance a lot of my gigabyte board builds are still not supported by cpu-z and it reads the VTT voltage as the core voltage.

erm quick question. do you think the 3 default fans on a fractal arc midi will be sufficient to take my q6600 up to ~3.4ghz with the nh-d14? i was gonna get some extra fans but the ones i wanted won't fit/are too expensive/perform worse :<

cheers

What kind of temps are you getting now, and at what voltage? What kind of temperature is your mobo/chipset at (if your motherboard gives you that kind of information), what temperature does your video card sit at on idle and load?

thanks for the quick reply.

well... it's all speculation still ^^". can't build or buy anything until certain criteria are met. firstly, the cpu isn't mine yet, it's a friend's until next month or so

Well, run it at stock for a while to get a feeling for the temperatures attainable with the fans you have, and go from there :)

Just overclocked mine to approx 3.5 GHz....using a asus p5k3 (DDR3 board, might be a better overclocker). Everything is set to auto ! Cant hit 3.6 GHZ though. Doesn't even boot up
