Just seen the news section that OCUK have just taken delivery of x6700QuadCore.

"Today we have just taken delivery of Intel new Quad Core processor the QX6700. Featuring 4 core 2 DUO processors there is no faster CPU on the market with prices from £649.99 +VAT."

:D

Nice, but the price is abit steep considering not much will make use of four cores, I will buy an E6600 least I wont lose much money in terms of selling on etc, besides when Quad Core is in the mainsteam use they will be a lot cheaper.

Multi-tasking will make good use of quad core. It's difficult to ask a single desktop application to take full advantage of that much processing power...

99% of the people that say "i want one" probably have absolutely no use for it, hell i'm not even using my c2d to it's full potential i bought it as i needed a upgrade and it was the sensible path at a very affordable price!

I will be getting either one of these or the Q6600 in January/Febuary time. Still need to get quite a few other parts ready for my new rig before then. :)

Same here, I bought a X6800 for £420 but after a few weeks realised I had made a big mistake of wasting £200 so sold it for what I bought it for, the second hand price has gone down by around £100 since October. Most sensible affordable option for most people including me is keeping an E6300, E6400, E6600 & clocking them to 3.4 - 3.6ghz, then when quad core is less than £250 & the cores are used to thier full potential in games etc it may be worth purchasing, lets face it most of the people who use these forums are gamers, the only other things I used my pc for is Word, Excel, Surfing the web, Ripping CD's. I dont need Quad Core it would be a waste of my money.

Only one speed out? Intel planning to release anymore speeds?
QX6600 I think rated at 2.4ghz - multi-locked upward, which is scheduled for release in January but only about £80 cheaper but dont quote me I'm just going off what I've read while surfing the web.

Theres a q6600 coming out soon as well as xeon versions. The q6600 isnt sold as an xtreme version and has a locked 6-9x multi like the e6600.

Intel are swithing the prcoess to a cooler 65nm from 80nm early next year and they wil probably release higher clocking versions as well as the octo cores

this is a total waste imho. most people arnt getting the use out of dual core chips yet nevermind quad! where are all these multithreaded apps and games that were meant to take advantage of dual core?? there's hardly any of them.

same thing with pci-express. whats wrong with agp??

wait for the SMP patch from Valve

they plan to have the engine scalable, meaning it should see linear improvements in CPU based tasks way past quad core

if valve shows SMP in games can be done right, i'm sure others will follow.
