Oh.... didn't realise Photoshop was multi threaded. :)
Make that 3 programs I use regularly, now if only the unreal editor was multithreaded.....

Compiling Halflife 2 maps is multithreaded so i would be happy if i bought :)

q6600 will be much cheaper ive heard. :)

Afraid not, the qx6700 extreme is $1000 in the US and the qx6600 is slated for $851.

It will probably only be about £100 cheaper. :(

you all whine saying 1 app wont use all the cores. i personally have many apps open. quad core you can have 1 dvd burning, 1 encoding session, 1 gaming session, and a tonne of background apps running

Hi

Mine ordered :D decided to go for it, I wont be able to play with it until the Asus board is out, i dont fancy the EVGA one, I am a bit confused of what RAM to go for having never done a DDR2 or intel system before, Any tips would be welcome

Guys, if you had a C2D Extreme and had the chance to upgrade to a QX6700 for little or no more cost.

Would you?
Because I might have that chance :p

I'd be setting myself up for the possibility of all 4 or more than 2 at least, being used without spending extra cash.

deffinatly in that case.

if you sell that X6800 youd get in the region of £400, if you exchange it for a QX6700 for almost no cost.. do the maths.

you'd get atleast 3.3Ghz minimum (@ 1.35v in my case)
not sure how much over 333fsb you can push that 680 of yours but
atleast you have open multipliers to use.

question is, can you stand the heat lol

Just got my nice new quad core, just waiting for my evga 680 board to turn up and will have to see how fast these little buggers can go :) oh and add in the little matter of a 8800 gtx to the mix :)

It's now on this week only, oooh why do they tempt me so.
But I absolutely refuse to buy one till I have the cash in hand from the other guy.

I've spent way too much on my system already and I could get a water cooling system instead but, uhh..well, i'll wait till the summer :p

Really daft question - but why is it called Core 2 Quadro and not Core 4?

Think it's a cracking chip though - and am saving up for one for my eventual upgrade. Do a lot of things other than games that could benefit in the extra core's.

I'm the same, I always have a ton of apps open. My Opteron Dual Core struggles with the amount of stuff I have open at the moment. So a step-up to Quad core is my next upgrade.

Very true - however not every app likes to be minimised etc, a few old burner aps really hate it for example and can make coasters because of only this I have found and as stated above struggling could be caused by memory or hdd's caching to keep up not necessarily the cpu's fault

People asked what applications use all 4 cores. Well, incredibly boring I know, but my dual dual core (i.e. quad) Opteron runs 24/7 with all 4 cores fully loaded, with chess programs that in many cases will us up to 8 cores if you have them :) My next purchase may well be dual Quad core Xeons

Also - some chess programs come in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and there is one example where the 64-bit exe gives a 70% speed-up. Yes you read that right, 70%. Many question the value of 64-bit, well there is one example where it benefits hugely.

Chess is however a very snmall market segment....
