Quake champions

Not so easy to practise in the beta but the movement is basically the same as quakelive or quake 3 so could grab the quake 3 demo and practise on that or use the training map in quakelive though IIRC you now have to pay a small fee to get quakelive through steam if you don't already have it.

It'll be a feeding frenzy for the vets on launch. id's inability to address match balancing over the last 17 years, doesn't bode well for the future of this latest iteration.

I've given this a few hours of my time but I won't be revisiting this. Definitely netcode issues and a fairly toxic veteran community.

Disappointing because all the veteran players just wreck, end of. Puts so many people off!

AFAIK there is no skill matching active yet in the beta. I've not really encountered much toxicity outside of a couple of posters on the beta forums.

It is hard not to wreck though with 20 odd years experience :s especially as so many newer players don't even try and expect the game to bring everyone down to their level instead.

I'd probably be a noob then as I haven't played Quake 3 since 2004/5.

This is pretty much how I feel about this beta

It seems like so many new players want to be spoon fed, so many expect a MMR system & Anticheat in a beta :(

The same bugs that were in the first week of the beta are still there with the addition of slower loading times etc

The game as a whole seems meh, it brings nothing new & tries to be both class based & a arena fps (no gamemode is specific enough to utilise the classes & the balance from arena fps is lost as everyone has differing health/hitbox/movement/abilities)

I don't really mind that aspect - the champions with more powerful abilities have quite a lot lower health and those with higher than normal health have quite slow speed. The only thing I'd like changed there is so that abilities can't easily instantly kill with low potential for anticipating it as right now some of them are a little too capable of doing that.

I've kind of got the hang of it already now, at least the basics. I seemed to default to the half life bunny hop method from years ago. I didn't play Q3 previously much, but this style is much easier to build up speed and maintain it, however it seems quite difficult to master turning in tighter spaces.

1600dpi on 0.6 currently feels roughly right as a beginner. I've noticed the game seems to lag and stutter slightly if you play for more than an hour? Only thing I dislike so far is the rocket launcher, the rockets themselves feel awful and the splash damage seems very limited both in area and damage. I seem to remember Q3 having a similar splash distance but more damage?

I find that (the limited options for tweaking mouse settings doesn't help) it isn't as good as quake 3 or even doom 2016 in that aspect i.e. in some LG battles I've found moments where the mouse just won't respond as I want.

The waiting/joining games stuff I believe is done so as to keep the pressure off the backend in beta to better give everyone a chance to get some rounds in rather than saturating the relatively limited backend in beta compared to the hosting that would be in place when it goes live.

Personally I kind of like the abilities despite being relatively a quake purist - 1-2 need tweaking so they don't cause hard to anticipate instant kills but aside from that I like the extra flavour.

I wish I could share your optimism with all the waiting around. Seems like they are going the CoD / Overwatch route with unlocks, loot and player customisation screens.

I have said on beta forum that I want to play quake (ie map rotation servers) not keep being booted back to a lobby. Im not convinced it is happening because its beta but because its by design. Just reminds me of CoD which does the exact same thing after every map (as does Overwatch) and they did the same thing with Doom.
