Quake (enhanced) 2021

I'm getting annoying audio lag.

e.g. every sound is about 1 second behind what I see on-screen.

Nobody else seems to be reporting this?

Input lag is non-existent and everything is buttery smooth, but when I jump or shoot, I hear the sound ~1 second later?

Actually i dunno haven’t experienced that issue

Apparently it only uses about 15 main colours, which then have various shades.

I think the entire pallette is only 256 colours.

I was watching some stream it the other night and forgot how annoying the sounds are. The sounds are about as limited as the colours. The last time I remember playing it was 1999 during college lunchtimes. Everyone was dishing out 14 floppies to install it.

I remember being at uni and went to a kitchen party in one of the campus accommodation blocks. There was a couple of lads in one if the rooms playing quake. I was drunk but still managed to show them the super secret dopefish on one of the maps. This was circa 1999, and just for a moment (in their eyes at least) I was a gaming god! :p

By then I had played the game to death and knew every secret but I had moved on to Quake 3.

But Quake was groundbreaking in the day as it used proper 3d models and introduced many people to using a mouse with their keyboard (which was hidden behind the +mlook command and not part of the main settings).

Coming from Doom II, I played Quake on keyboard only to begin with as I didn't know any better.

Then my mate told me about mouse look. Mind. Blown.

Game changer! Quake was the game that cemented the FPS genre as my favourite of all time.

Not sure how he even did some bits but I remember a friend in college got quite far into of Quake 1 single player on keyboard and just using the axe as he didn't know how to switch weapons...

Annoyingly can't quite get the mouse right - though it was never 100% in Quake 1 - the first 45 degrees or so of a turn is perfect but then I get progressively more negative acceleration which none of the usual tricks seem to sort.

Have to say the new single player dimension of the machine is impressive - from what I've played of it so far some incredible level design and good pacing/fights. Someone(s) really put a lot of effort into that.
