Does anyone still play original Quake? If so I have just noticed there is a patch for the Steam version which works perfectly

DarkPlaces (Ultimate Quake Patch v1.11)- Adds CD music, some effects and lighting can be added if you want or keep the game as its meant to be.

Stuff Crysis 3, im going to complete this on nightmare mode. If only someone could make a multiplayer patch

GL Quake, 2560 x 1440 ~1000 FPS :)

I installed nQuake and run ezQuake, select a game from the list and it says 'connected' on the console then doesn't do anything. Are all the servers supposed to be empty?

It also very bright for Quake, a game that's supposed to be gritty and dark

That screenshot brings back memories. I don't think I could even get across the path to the right IIRC! I played so much RA3 as a kid, ran Barrysworld RA3 league for a few seasons too.

It was always the demo the started up that I remember, grenades bouncing and the HNNNGGGGG of some grunt thing. Might have to install it again. Been revisiting old games recently (Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2, Carmageddon).

If it just says connected in the console but doesn't load the map then either:

a) something has gone wrong
b) you connected to a proxy, rather than a server (which is potentially understandable as a novice)

Best thing is probably to just type "join quake.xs4all.nl" in the console, as that server is nearly always populated, and is free for all so wide range of skill level and don't need to worry about annoying teammates etc until you've got yourself up to speed.

If you use IRC, #qwrookie on Quakenet is a good channel to ask for interactive help.

Quake 1 is the best thing id has ever done imo. Near masterpiece.

I replayed the SP about a year ago not having touched it since my run through on release and mostly really enjoyed it aside from the odd bits where outdated mechanics or graphics were so outdated they got in the way which wasn't often.

Have you tried using some heavy duty mods in other play throughs, Rroff? I've used several, but the DarkPlaces one was excellent. :)

Going off a slight tangent, I also recall the N64 versions being a little different with the location of the odd secret. That was a nice, colourful and rich / vibrant example of Quake.

Darkplaces is great, I replayed it last year modded up to the eyeballs, looks great for such an old game!

Quake in 1080p using the 'Darkplaces' mod, along with HighRes textures, nice water, HDR and real lighting :D

Makes it look fantastic:

Hey HeX, very nice screens there.

You don't happen to have links to all the mods you mentioned do you please?
