Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

I've had the live stream on all day. It really hit me today that she's gone, we'll never hear from her again. She was such a constant and overwhelming presence.

Reminds me when William said just the other day, she was everyone's grandmother thinking of the relation to every Christmas get together as she gives her speech at 3pm on Christmas day before everyone's families has their dinner after the speech.

Exactly, like when covid started and I thought the world was ending. I didn't realise how much I valued her presence and words, as though everything was actually going to be ok.

Unavoidably, on the local news it’s all about london (london local news :D ). Classic segment in front of new new new Scotland yard with the weird triangle rotating sign. What on earth is that sign all about?

No idea. I'm more a fan of their eternal flame tbh but that doesn't look so familiar in the news reports.

Or not jumping the queue.

Though, the person may have been returning to their place in the queue after being on a 'comfort break' before entering the oldest building in the Palace of Westminster.

I was I think 14 when Diana died and it was a massive deal in the media even back then (Sky News started in 1989 so 24 hour news was very much a thing) but in a different way I feel. Due to her age and way she died there was a lot more outpouring of emotion and the whole thing was a bit mawkish looking back. Listen to that tripe version of (the great original song!) Candle In The Wind by Elton John to get a feeling of where the nations psyche was at the time.

Millions of people laid flowers at the royal houses. People were throwing flowers on the hearse from the side of the road on the drive to Althorp. We had a day off school for the funeral then as well.

Yup, I was about the same age. And the whole outpouring of emotion by pretty much everyone was strange, wired, and mawkish as you say. It's the reason i took a step back in almost disgust at the whole thing, I just couldn't back then and still can't understand how people can crumble and bawl their eyes out when a celebrity or famous person dies. I can feel empathy but everyone seemed to be losing their grip as if a close family member died back then and i felt i was alone in not giving a ****. At the time I felt sadder when Freddy Murchery died because I was a big fan of Queen growing up.

That was about 21:50, it explains why they switched to the outside camera, I figured someone had collapsed or similar.

I suspect there’s a delay on the stream for this very reason?

Not surprised, with this many people involved there’s bound to be at least one idiot.

Yeah 30 second delay apparently. There was certainly no irregularities on the stream, unlike the other day when the guard collapsed and that was shown for a few seconds before they changed camera.

Mass formation.

I've never teared up at a celebrity (have felt great shock from some that has died) but felt some tears from the Diana funeral and more so the Queen triggered heavy tears due to the memories of my Mother relating to the memories of Christmas that will be no more. You don't know what relation the Royals had on other people's lives that impacted or those that live alone or with families that got them through dark days. Or even some people out there that no longer has family and their only family that they could relate to was Royals on TV as the Queen always spoke to everybody. There's a bond that develops. Celebrity or Royal. The same bond that children feel as celebrity heroes. Somebody they look up to.

I do remember when Freddy died. I was too young but I remember feeling the emotional shock waves hit around the place like it was Elvis that had died. Funny in weird ways that I briefly remember Queen's music but was too young for it. Wasn't until my teenage years I started discovering Queen to feel any relation to Queen. Even though really I knew nothing more of Freddy except archived footage. While many will know of him when he was alive or concerts they saw live.

Memories and emotion are powerful.
