Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

Its was deathly quiet here normally its a hubbub of noise, traffic, screaming kids, workmen etc. Absolute quiet yesterday like I've only ever seen it for xmas day or new year. Astonishing.

Was a ghost town here too. I mean it normally is anyway but it was even more deathly. What I noticed though was a lot of families together.

Why film it then? Honestly the offical footage and TV footage is far superior so I don't understand why.
Because it's an additional view, and more personal than the official footage. If you record something from your own location it'll likely trigger more memories about what was going on around you at that specific moment than a generic shot from a completely different place.
It's also never a bad thing to get as many pictures and as much footage of historic events as possible from different places, if just because it's the sort of thing historians love, the "official" record is great, but in 50/100 years time the historians are probably going to be at least as interested in the amateur stuff specifically as it's not the official version so lets them get a comparison and insight into the "normal" view of things.

quite annoyed atm,

Im Scottish, and watching the game against Ukraine atm, the pre-match clapping for a minute was nice to show the repeats for the Queen passing..

But there were quite a few booing from the Scottish fans. Sickening tbh, times like this it can be embarrassing to be from Scotland. Really is.

I hope you invite your whole family over to share these experiences, break out the holiday snaps for that extra specialness.

I love seeing other peoples' holiday snaps I do.

ah, reminds me of the old days when dad used to get his projector and slides out. They were actually quite fun evenings.

Sticking photos on social media isn't quite the same.

Projector and 35mm slides, taken with a decent camera+lense, you have quality images that do last generations.

DIY videos of the procession, if you were really close like the youtube I linked earlier, they could be OK, but if its 50m away I'm sceptical,
carrying my smoking analogy of phone filming further, if you don't interfere with the view of others, fine ; maybe there should be a segregated area for phone use though.

e:
Funeral of Queen Elizabeth [5K ULTRA HD] Parade of Queen's Guard in Windsor Castle

does show how you might have had to watch through a sea of phones

We had some converted to dvd years ago. Considering they were taken decades ago, you'd never know. I'll see if I can post a couple up if I get chance.

Was meant to be there tonight but floored with the flu, when I heard there would be clapping I knew there would be some ********* around, seen plenty of it at the club games last weekend as well. I hope they don't bother doing it on Saturday at Scotland v Ireland

Most of my friends in Scotland are republicans, so had to put up with some really awful Facebook posts from them.

I just ignored the posts but their hatred was sad to see.

Scottish King lined up ?

There is a belief that there are descendents of Charles Edward Stuart alive today. In 1753, Bonnie Prince Charlie had an illegitimate daughter by his mistress Clementina Walkinshaw.
