Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

It was the middle of the night in Australia and 20% of people there watched it, you think that's bad? It was a huge event world wide and was reported globally. We're a small island of 60m people, I'd say that's quite impressive
I am not doubting that it was a massive event but my post(s) was in response to some people that were adamant that the 4bn figure could possible be true. And I've said that 20% of Australians tuning in is massive and a sign of just how big an event it was, I've said it multiple times in fact - it wasn't the middle of the night there though, it was early to mid evening kick off.

I knew the 4bn figure was implausible but this is genuinely surprising. I read that in Australia, part of the commonwealth and broadcast while people were awake and not at work, there was just over 5m viewers or approx 20% of their population. Massive numbers for an overseas event but a million miles from the numbers you'd need to get anywhere near 4bn globally.

Wow, that's really paltry. Oh well.

Only Fools and Horses had a higher viewing figure at 24.3m

Can only assume it's because of streaming media?

:edit: Wiki has it at 26.2m

Doesn't seem right does it. The roads were virtually empty.

Would be curious if they give figures including streaming then, I had it in the background on youtube and there was aprox a million watching at the time (main BBC youtube channel, tho I suppose that could have viewers from outside the UK). Iplayer etc not counted in the above numbers I presume.

What does the 28.5m viewing figure actually mean though? Is it number of TV sets being viewed at any one time, or is it 28.5m people watching.
It's a rough guess.

The devices themselves log data about who in the household is viewing and what they are watching.
So how would my tv know if I’m watching by myself or with my misses or even if my mate and his dog came over? Because that could be 1,2 or 3 people depending on circumstances.

While we are talking about Phil and Holly queue jumping I wonder if or how this went down.

Starmer told BBC Breakfast: “Today, I’ll be there as part of the reception committee to receive the coffin. Then later on this evening in a private capacity, because my wife and our children … they want to come in, and as a family we will then pay our own personal respects to a remarkable sovereign.”
