Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

Feeling quite sad atm, never really been bothered about the royal family, however she has always been there, a proud figure at the head and a symbol for the country.

I personally think she has yes. I dont see why you'd change a tv schedule and done a black shirt and tie etc if not.

I don't have a TV, but surely they are not wearing black shirts? :) I am hoping for miracles and she will rally, but realistically fear the worst.

I just can't recall the death of a senior Royal being preempted by newsreaders donning black ties... seems rather odd and very insensitive to me.

I'm watching this on BBC1 at work. They're all wearing black. All of them.

Its standard procedure the black tie stuff, this is all carefully choreographed by the big UK media outlets.

I'm not anti-royal family, but I'm definitely not pro either. As I've grown up, I've sort of learned to respect and admire the royal family, albeit not entirely or religiously so.

As much as I hope the Queen hasn't passed away, my gut tells that it's her time to go and that she already has passed away. :(

Im not a royalist but this is a major event for the country and it kinda hurts a little since i lost my 96yr old Nan a week after my birthday, earlier this year and she looked like a taller version of the Queen.

They have been informed that either she has passed away already or she is imminently about to. They need to be wearing appropriate and respectful attire when they read the announcement.

a stranger, you've likely never met or spoke to dies and it feels the same as a family member?! jesus i know folk get all loved up for the royals but that's a bit far. mustn't have a great relationship with your family i guess.
Am sure everyone feels differently, but yeah it does feel a bit like that to me. She's been a constant presence for my whole life and my parents' whole life too, and as a figurehead for the country I feel quite a connection to her. It may be a 'parasocial relationship' to use the new term, but it is what it is. Helps that I feel like she's done a pretty fantastic job as our monarch, and is a great symbol for many positive things imo.

I mean maybe you're right - two of my grandparents died when I was quite young and never had a very close relationship with the other two, so maybe in some way she's filling a gap. Either way she's got a significant place in my heart.

The last time I remember the Queen in person, was when I was a kid in the 80's and a teacher pulling me by the ear to the point it was bleeding to be forced to wave at her when she drove past!

So guess what I think about the Queen?
