Looks like a few lucky people have managed to get their Quests 2's early as some retailers have accidentally broken the street date...

...except they're not that lucky because the app and firmware updates aren't ready yet, so they can't activate the headsets.

Hey Melmac, hope you're well mate!

Yeah getting the Quest 2 with the elite strap, pre-ordered it on day 1 and should be getting both on the 14th.

I game at 1440p in pancake mode.

Hey!! Good man, I am getting a Quest 2 as well :)

Your current CPU will be holding the 3080 back at 1440p. I think it will affect your VR experience too. I would advice an upgrade, but, since you will be doing this anyway, then just Rock on!! :)

Talking about performance, I want to upgrade to the 3080 at some point (when they're finally available!) but is my old i7-4790k going to hold it back too much?
Am I looking at a system wide upgrade or could I get away with just the 3080 for the time being?

I'm intending pairing my current Ryzen 3100 with an RTX 3070 (or possibly an AMD alternative) when they release so it'll be interesting to see how that fares.

Hopefully it doesn't bottleneck things too much in VR gaming. I have a b550 motherboard so plenty of CPU upgrade options if it does.

Are Nvidia GPUs still the preferred option for VR gaming and Quest Oculus link or would AMD be just as capable?

New Oculus Blog post about Facebook accounts. Not exactly reassuring. Here's the pertinent bit:

If I’m having problems accessing my Facebook account, can I still use my Oculus device?

If you encounter problems with your Facebook account, we want to try to help you resolve them as quickly as possible.

If you have a temporary issue with your Facebook account after logging in to your Oculus device—for example if it uses a name that does not follow our policies—you will still be able to use your device while you resolve the issue, so long as you remain logged in to your device and do not log out. If you’re in this situation, you’ll have the opportunity to request a review of the issue when you log into Facebook.

Repeated or particularly serious violations of our Community Standards may lead you to lose access to your Facebook account, meaning you will no longer be able to log into your device using that account.

For additional help in setting up or using your Oculus device, please contact Oculus Support.

Where can I get help if I’m having problems logging into my Oculus device with a Facebook account?

If you’re having difficulty logging in to Facebook, this article in the Facebook Help Center covers common fixes.

If you experience a problem after you log in, follow the instructions in the Facebook app.

If you’re still looking for additional help in setting up or using your Oculus device, please contact Oculus Support.

oculus app on IOS has been updated to include quest2.

From reading all the stuff about quest2 my understanding was that you couldn't use an existing oculus account with quest2, it had to be a facebook account. The new "please pick a facebook account, not an oculus account" stuff that appears when I first ran the updated app, made no mention of having to have a FB account if using a Q2.

I just downloaded the app. Seems it's no longer possible to create an Oculus account without a Facebook account. I've just set mine up, linked to my FB.

Only thing that really bothers me is FB's (reportedly) poor customer service when it comes to banned accounts, and the potential issues with having purchases tied to such an account. Will try VD when my Quest 2 arrives. If it works well, I might not buy much on the Quest store and will mainly use it for PCVR. Worst case scenario, I need to change headsets if I do something Facebook doesn't like.

"Rock on" I like what you did there :D

People's Quest's that have shipped already, it that direct from Oculus or somewhere else like the rainforest?

I ordered mine with Oculus and it still states Processing for shipping. Guessing they will start shipping on the 13th.

Deleted my Facebook a long time ago but re-signed up with a made up name and linked to oculus. Hopefully be able to use it fine.

What are you going to do when they ask for photo id as part of their identification checks? Normally takes a few weeks for new accounts.
