Quest 3 accessories thread

Found myself using the Q3 more than i thought i would, the band that comes with doesn't really work out for more than 20 minutes before it starts to hurt. Looking at the BOBO VR S3 Pro Super Strap, but not sure on one or two things.

The facial interface causes me problems, it's too hard. Presumably i need to replace that too as it appears that's not included, any recommendations for a PU or silicone? At £100 it's kind of pricy but looks worth it, is there anything else as good perhaps cheaper i don't know about.

Looking for comfort mainly, but could do with at least doubling the battery life. I know nothing and it seems like a minefield of products, crazy how much is out there.

For the interface I just bought a silicon sleeve for about £7 iirc from Amazon that slips over the abrasive original interface, but I don't use the interface now, I have the KKCOBVR halo type headstrap which is an open or normal interface style (I use open), it has a 10,000 amp battery on the back, gives about 90-120 mins extra. Iirc was about £50 last summer. It's not a premium feel but hasn't fell apart either. I like it but I can't get it so it feels really secure so high movement games are out, might be something I'm doing wrong. I know Bobo are really well thought of so definitely consider them.

I'm using you guys as a test bed for the review for the annapro. In case anyone missed it, I was given this for free by annapro, but they said I could write what I like.

TLDR: Do not buy this as a battery halo strap, but as a battery elite strap it works well, and can then moonlight as an OK halo for low movement usage which is quite a bonus.
Snip..

i meant to reply sooner sorry.
generally very good review i only really had 2 comments which are minor

To attach, you slide over the headset arms with the arms of the strap. It's a tight fit with what appears to be some rubber like material, to ensure it doesn't slip. There's a small lip at the end of the headset arms to prevent the arms from sliding into/over the power and headphone sockets. I feel this to be a major design issue...

Finally sitting really high on the forehead. I found I had to have my hair tied back for this to work, otherwise it slipped too easily. However, like this I felt it was an acceptable distance (I could insert a dedicated interface, designed for elite straps and have it lightly on my face).

its more wording so your not selling another brand as example and a slight personal spin. - minor and my thoughts only on wording.

it sort of looks like the front head strap is a little to high on you to me, although I don't use that style.
im assuming you dont wear glasses at all? i ask as im interested to know if you end up with eye straigh with the change in distance from face

I’ve tried many facial interfaces.
My daily driver is the AMVR, the globular cluster is very good if you have multiple users, as the magnetic swaps make it a much easier experience when you’re changing between people, however the light leakage between the different parts makes it no good if you’re stood under bright lights.
I’ll probably buy the newer AMVR as the one I have currently doesn’t really allow me to flip up the headset.

Forgot to add that I’m using the kkcobvr halo strap.

Thanks for the suggestion.

The forehead strap was too high for the typically halo use, but any lower pushes the headset itself too far away. No glasses, I suspect I'd have had eye strain with the headset too far away.

So I've been playing around with the annapro a3 max a bit more. I'm not a halo strap user, so I'm not familiar with them that much. I've seen others use them, so have a fair idea of what the headstrap is supposed to do!

If you're a strict halo user, I don't think this is for you to be honest. Oddly enough, I reckon it's much better for an elite strap user!

It came in quite a small square box, with the rear pad already attached. Feels fairly regular in terms of materials, nothing special, but nothing bad either. There's a small clip accessible on the back pad, which is nice (more on that later). The battery clips on really easily, and comes off easily (when you want to, I don't think it'll fall off, the magnets are strong), I've seen an older video review saying it beeps really loudly when connected and disconnected, but mine doesn't beep at all, so perhaps it's been revised.

There's a small lip at the end of the headset arms to prevent the arms from sliding into/over the power and headphone sockets. This appears to actually be a major design issue...

When I couldn't get the halo aspect to fit as I was expecting, I contacting the Annapro rep who sent me through a video for instructions and told me the strap gear can be reinforced. I wasn't sure what they meant, but figured out that you can keep tightening beyond where it immediately feels like there's no further to go. This feels a little weird, but at the same time, it feels like it's a lot stiffer and less likely to slip whilst moving. At no point did the gears grind or loosen off unexpectedly etc.

Unfortunately, the video didn't really help, and funnily enough seemed to replicate the issue I was having. When using the strap across my forehead, with it as close to the headset as possible, the headset was sitting a very long way in front of my face. Photo below. You can practically see my whole nose, so it should be obvious it's miles away. If the connecting arms could be slid further along, then this would be a quick and easy way to bring the headset closer, there's probably a good 5mm space before reaching the power socket, so there was definitely some wriggle room with regards to the design!

Next with the strap a little more vertical, so higher on the forehead:

Still room for my finger, not touching my eyelashes or the lens.

Finally sitting really high on the forehead. I found I had to have my hair tied back for this to work, otherwise it slipped too easily. However, like this I felt it was an acceptable distance (I could insert my globular cluster interface, designed for elite straps and have it lightly on my face). I quite liked being without the interface. I could easily see myself using it like this to watch films, or potentially even work, having the pressure off my face and the airflow felt really nice compared to the elite style I'm used to. I would not play anything with any sort of serious movement though, or even minigolf where looking down is required! I could walk around without it being shaken out of place though.

Finally, given how adjustable it is, it actually works very well as an elite style strap.

The top strap provides a little more vertical support like this, but isn't really playing a huge role, angling it more could easily make more room for those needing it. The fact it's also got the angle change for the rear pad is actually very nice for easily getting an even spread on that. As the tightening gear at the back is very stiff when doing it tight enough, there was no sign of it loosening when I shook my head (more than I would in most games, back and forth etc).

The only slight issue with this, compared with the elite strap I normally use is the lack of midline strap across the top, which really helps add the benefit from a counterweight, but with the slim build of the q3, it's not noticeable really. As I mentioned earlier though, there is a gap to loop a top strap in, so if you had a fabric one, you could easily slip it under the forehead/top strap, so a potential mod.

I have the original q2 carry case, there's no way I can find to pack this strap into that case. My son (who'll probably be taking this off me), has a cheap version from aliexpress, a box shaped thing, that I have found I can just about get it in, as it has a bit more depth to it.

I wouldn't have bought this headstrap, since I'm not into halo straps. I really couldn't recommend this headstrap as a halo strap either due to the distance it sat from the eyes when reasonably secured, but as an elite strap, it's good, especially as it's got a large sized battery that goes on and off easily and securely. That it can then moonlight as a halo strap for more sedentary uses, makes it very useful, and quite possibly my new daily driver (until my son takes it for himself).

TLDR: Do not buy this as a battery halo strap, but as a battery elite strap it works well, and can then moonlight as an OK halo for low movement usage which is quite a bonus.

Sorry completely forgot about this.

Very, very good review. Not too long but still covers everything. The photos help too.

I like the writing style you used as well. It's getting all the detail across but it's like you are talking to the reader as a friend. Which makes it more engaging to read.

You should consider doing more reviews.

Got the S3 pro in the end. Bit of a beast, doubles the weight, the comfort works out though. Just separates the facial interface enough to no longer feel intrusive.

Now just need to figure a router. Bouncing on the home Virgin box currently, which works surprisingly well. Good for 3 solid hours of After The Fall today without a glitch, not so much last night with it dropping out constantly. I figure i need something dedicated.

The latest meta updates are also causing regular dropouts, so a dedicated router may still have issues until meta sort their act out.

Oh, i'll hold off for now then. To be honest it was fine all day yesterday, flawless, even gave it a go with an hour in Bigscreen. I was looking at the TP AXE75, if there's still a need.

The powerbank i use on the back of my elite strap is a Anker one

and I've just noticed it's cracked , how the hell did that happen

Did you smack yourself in the back of the head during a particularly savage Beat Saber riff?

Or is it possible it's cracked because the battery pack has expanded, and it's a fire risk?

i have no idea
ordered a new one for tomorrow

expanded from playing beat saber for too long in the heat ;) :D
