Quest 3 owners etc

As a new Quest 3 user I'm confused. What platform is it generally better (gameplay, graphics etc.) to buy/play games when you also have a powerful PC?

Some games on the Quest store have PC versions you get for free on the old Oculus PC store, so these are the priority if you want both native and PC versions.
Otherwise go for the Steam VR version as you can use that on any future headsets, including non-meta ones.
Then there are the Oculus PC store exclusives like Lone Echo 1 & 2, Asgard's Wrath (which Q3 owners get free), Arktika.1, From Other Suns, etc. which are absolutely worth buying but the Oculus PC store games never seem to go on sale and the prices might be high for games which are now fairly old, and we don't know how long Meta will properly support the PC store as they are not really actively developing it any more.
And of course there are native games you can't get on PC. There are some very good games even though the graphics aren't amazing.

I hope it works!! Big Screen Movie night is bad enough with Unseul and ShiWarrior hooting and hollering, throwing popcorn and tomatoes and acting inappropriately without the movie quality been subpar as well!! :p

Well for movie night I stream from PC using the Bigscreen PC VR app, so there's no real issue there.

I have converted Avatar 2 from my 3D Blu-ray to SBS MKV full resolution (1080p per eye) and it looks stunning!

The only issue is Meta have broken the ability to load large files >4gb on the headset so I have to stream from a network share rather than load onto the headset.

I have a huge 3D Bluray collection and a big pile of disks to convert. (I do regular trips to second hand shops and charity shops to find them, and you can pick them up very cheap.) I wish there was an easier way to watch them other than having to manually convert them to SBS format.
Did they.? I had no problems transferring 2 ~20GB films to mine (128GB version).

That's interesting because I used to be able to put huge movies on the headset but recently it broke. I'll have to try it again. I have a Pro rather than Q3 but Q3 owners have reported the same issue. I had a new version of V59 PTC drop last night, maybe they fixed it.

There is.! 4XVR player can play isos or remuxes.
If that wasn’t enough it can play them from USB drive and runs at 120hz synced with playback so no dropped or doubled frames.!

I’ve sent mine yesterday to Meta due to flickering 120hz and now face interface distance adjustment being stuck in one position on one side.
It was delivered to them this morning.
Hopefully won’t take long before they send a replacement and fingers crossed there will be no dead pixels.

Thanks, bit clearer now

I'm eager to give that Avatar trailer a play

How do you transfer files to the Quest....do you need to cable it ?

Does the Q3 have a good player for this built-in ?

Connect the Q3 to your computer with a USB 3.x cable, then accept the prompt in the Q3 that asks if you want to enable sharing of files, and then the Q3 will be a drive on your computer, then transfer the files. Put them in the Movie folder on the Quest. 4XVR is a free video player that i used earlier today to view the Avatar trailer, you have to change a setting in it to view it properly (sorry can't exactly recall what it was, it was something to do with HSBS view or something).

Thanks for that. Video looks superb, gives a great insight as to what is possible....would make me think about looking for some full movies.

For those with Virtual Destop, you can download files in the Q3 using that, so no need for a cable. To do that just make sure the video file is in the Videos folder on the PC. You'll be able to see the file then when you click Videos in VD. Click the ... and you can download to the Q3.

As per @tyke_ , 4XVR is a free player that you can download from the quest store.

When playing the avatar trailer to make it look right, you need to click the cube icon in the video control panel, then select FLAT and the 3DFSBS. I set the aspect ratio to default, as that looked the best to me.

Thanks for the demo file @tyke_

No problem, thx 4 the tip about VD, very useful. Btw it wasn't me who supplied the demo it was @BoboWeb

I had my biggest near miss in VR the other day after using VR since 2014. It was in MR actually in Thrill of The Fight, the ref said go to my corner seat at the start of the bout, i looked around for my seat, seen it just behind me, and lowered myself backwards to sit on it, completely not realising it was a virtual seat augmented with my real life background (my yard). I was half way down when i just stopped myself in time from crashing flat on my ass. Loved the feeling tbh, very immersive.

And replacement is already on the way to me and should be here tomorrow.
Posted it to Meta on Tuesday and will get replacement on Friday.
That is super quick.
Excellent service from Meta.

what issues is he having.?

can't buy anything in store using the same payment method that I bought the headset with and have used in store before. And can't add another payment method. And support haven't replied to any of my emails for 13 days now.

I had great success with Meta customer service online chat a few days ago about a pin code to be able to purchase content with my Meta app. The person I chatted with got it fixed for me. Click on one of the payment options in the link below and then click on 'Chat with customer support'.
