queue at hollister shop today...

The shop assistants make the queues, letting so many people in/out at a time etc. I agree it's ridiculous as there's plenty of space in the shop.

It's not complete **** though, let's be honest; the clothes feel nice and well made. Primark is most of the time complete **** but because it's so cheap it's not a problem. Buy a T-Shirt for £4, if it stretches/tears/rips oh well buy another one.

Agree with your comments,

The brighton store has now opened, on wednesday the queue was about 50meters around the corner, yet in the store.... No-one!

I would prefer to order online from them, plus you might find a discount coupon :)

Saying that a friend is now working at hollister so might get a bigger discount, will have to find out :)

i checked up on this.

the queues outside are to keep the till queues down inside the store, and they're only supposed to recruit from model agencies for special events

I read about that a while ago and that they seem to only recurit attractive young people in-store! They seem to like girls that wear little to no makeup! (which isn't a bad thing) but they seem to discriminate

they absolutely do. all the floor staff are contracted as models, which, crucially means their appearance can be used as a hiring criteria.

I wouldn't say all their staff are models! Due to a friend works in the store and she is a very pretty girl but no model, with another job at tesco

Which is why they don't advertise jobs there, at least that's what I heard. I'm just curious in that case, are shop assistants allowed to give out application forms or are they told to flat out refuse to everyone?

the staff are *contracted* as models, this doesnt mean they are models.

and they spend time proactively seeking out people who fit the image and trying to recruit them

Abercrombie is suppose to be East coast type fashion and Hollister being the west coast surfer fashion. A&F is suppose to be higher end in terms of quality and price.

Someone told me once all of them are the same company and it's in this order in terms of perceived quality pricing.

Abercrombie
Banana Republic (not sure about this one)
Hollister
Gap
Old Navy

I would say pricing wise Hollister and Gap are probably the same but Hollister is the newer more fashionable one.

Sorry but you are totally wrong.

The only company there which is also Abercrombie is Hollister. Besides that they have Gilly Hicks which is like an aussie themed womens underwear brand. They also had one other which they scrapped earlier this year.

Old Navy & Banana Republic are owned by Gap, which is a completely different company.

The wikipedia article is pretty good for those who want to read up on how they recruit and the controversies they have gotten into with discrimination and racism by doing so.

No need to apologise, I stand corrected;). But there is also another brand called American Eagle I've seen in the states. Basically another Gap/Old/Navy whichever that hasnt reached here yet. The 'American' bit probably wont appeal as much to us though.

I do agree that g star has completely fallen off and is now worn by undesirables (not to say any of you lovely people who wear it suit that group)

Yeah that's never launched here, but then it's profits haven't been healthy from what I've just read... hasn't stopped them opening stores in Dubai and one in Israel next year though!

American Apparel does pretty well here, so I doubt the name is a real detractor.

It's not ridiculous. I wish more shops would adopt this, I'd know which ones are too busy and avoid them.

When you do get into the shop it maintains a higher quality of shopping experience, less hassle and queues at the fitting rooms and far less bother at the tills. Especially when you have a billion people returning unwanted items after Christmas.

This is the point I was trying to make about my GF meeting the criteria and being offered an interview. Natural, tall, very thin with no make-up. A bit of a rarity around Glasgow.

Young Asian men? That's racist!

haha, my grouping includes many races, but they all fit the same description

It always was designed for chavs and classless people who like looking a bit thuggish

what's funny is that my manager who is like 31 or so, isn't the most fashionable and assumes g star is the in thing to wear since he sees younger people wearing it so goes in the store and spends £70 on a shirt...
