Quick 406 HDi question

Contributing towards the maintenance sounds a bit odd, surely you can just top it up with petrol when you use it, that's what I do with the z4. It needs an annual service whether you use it or not!

MG TF... decent?

I enjoy it

It was my suggestion. It's an absolutely immaculate car (less than 10k miles oni t) so a small contribution towards stuff like tyres seems fair, especially as I'll proably end up using it more than him! Repairs and servicing he does himself, so I said I'd lend a hand when it needs doing - which is fine by me as I enjoy that sort of thing anyway

Or you could use the money to just keep your Saab and stopping messing about with junk.

The small amount of time and money I'd contribute wouldnt even begin to cover the extra cost of keeping the saab

Sorry I may have missed this but... is this a replacment for the saab? Didnt you only buy that a couple of months ago anway? Whats with all the irrational car purchases around here?!

wow did you really just ask what difference it makes if a car is an ex taxi!?

None at all mate you carry on, if you cant see the problems with ex mini cabs and builders vehicles, im not going to try and tell you.

If a car is well maintained and clean then no, i don't have a problem with it.

However, if there are door cards rebuilt with filler, cement in the carpets, paint on the seats, wood splinters in the roof lining, etc, etc then i'd walk away.

It is, if you look at my profile there's a massive thread that goes into all sorts of depths and arguments - rather than regurgitate it all here. Was hoping for useful information on the 406 rather than the usual financial advice...

And how, prey-tell, would you know it had been well maintained?

I certainly wouldn't want to buy a car from any of the local taxi firms round here, even if it did have a comprehensive history, and appeared "fine" on the day of purchase.

Taxis are abused, end.

The implication by some people seems to be that they think I'm going to go and buy a car that's on fire, after giving the windows a good licking obviously - just because they dont agree with my decision in the first place

Well you did ask the forum ....

If you end up buying a 406, group A will laugh at you when it breaks down.
If you don't buy a 406, group B will laugh at you when what you DO buy breaks down.

win/win. For the rest of us that is ;)

I torn between saying that "service history is service history" and "in that case how do you trust ANY service history", but if i do either we'll be going round in circles all day.

Think we'll need to agree to disagree on this one. :)

Just got a text from my 406 enthusiast friend with the answer to my original question. In case anyone wondered or if anyone searches for this in future - some of the 110s had DPFs, the way to tell is the letters "HXF" in the VIN number

Lol, you have a 406 enthusiast friend, but choose to get battered senseless yet again on OcUK Motors. <3 iaind, glutton for punishment :D.

I'm still waiting for jamief's new Golf thread, but it looks like he's too much of a pussy, unlike your brave self.

No no, the coupé is acceptable, the others not so much.

I can see no reason to own a 406 that isn't the coupé.

You are kidding? Its an excellent car, reliable, masses of load space and has a lot of toys - we had one for 10 years and the only thing that broke was the backlight on the dash
