Quick CPU question (E8400)

Are you thinking of upgrading from your E2160 @3.5? If so I really wouldn't bother. The only chip worth upgrading to would be a Q9 series and only then if you did a lot of stuff that benefited from a quad core.
Even a baby E2160 is still a very powerful CPU when clocked to 3.6 GHz.
IMO Intel® LGA775 is not to be purchased *New* anymore, at least until they get priced slashed . . .
There is plenty of great *Used* LGA775 kit up for grabs at very reasonable prices, I bought loads of it and never had a problem . . . I'm starting to get a thing for used hardware lol, the only thing that bugs me is finger prints and dust!

One of the reasons I want to change is because my E2160 has been clocked 3-3.5 ghz for 3 years and running 24/7. I feel like retiring it and keep it for back-up. The other reason is I'm enjoying being a clockaholic and the E8400 is such a performer.
I'm considering the Q6600 also, but I dont REALLY need the extra cores right now.

Retiring? That's ridiculous... spend the money on a weekend break with your lady.
It may seem like that from a 3rd party POV but looking at it from an overclockers point of view it makes perfect sense . . . it's about the silicon, the numbers, the improvements etc
In D&D terms its like using a +1 short sword for ages, gets the job done but eventaully you hanker after a +3 Longsword with fire resistance!

lol. I bought and sold them as a bit of an obsession. I didn't lose any money though. My current one is just mediocre I think. I have an EP45T-UD3P on its way to me that will hopefully be better than this EP45C.
I was about to but none of the motherboards really attract me. The ones that do are stupidly expensive (GD70) or quite old (M4A79-T) so I might as well just go i5.
If this EP45T doesn't pan out for me I may go AMD anyway as multicore gaming seems to be finally worth investing in.
