Quick SSD Install Question

When installing my intel ssd 80gb do I have to worry about partitioning the drive or do I only do this in my mechanical drive? I ask because the motherboard manual suggests:

When partitioning your hard drive, make sure
to leave unallocated space (10 GB or more is
recommended; actual size requirements vary,
depending on the amount of data) and begin the
installation of the operating system.

Cheers

You are having another disk for storage? If yes then leave the SSD at it's maximum size in my opinion.

Yes, I'm having a mechanical 1TB HD for storage.
On that point I'm just thinking about partitioning the mechanical HD - is it best to do this using windows 7 or FDisk and do I need to specify the relationship between the two HDs in BIOS?

Do it in Windows.
I know you want to do it right, but you are really overcomplicating it!;)

Most people (myself included) will have one small drive for OS and selected apps/games, and one whacking great big drive for storage. Don't partition for the sake of it, it just adds work you don't need to do!

Windows 7:
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Managment > Disk Management

You can sort out all partitioning and initialising new drives from there. The BIOS don't use relationships to my knowledge. Just plug and go if its Sata.

I also agree with the post above. I don't partition very much these days. I just use folders now to organise content.

Partitioning was really only needed when the older windows had disk space limits whilst drives were becoming larger.
