Quitting caffeine

I cut energy drinks and coffee out since new years day and i do feel better, sleep better and longer though it is still an issue, switched to drinking tea now, more refreshing.

I switched from 8-10 coffees a day to 1 or 2 in the morning then decaff the rest of the time on the advice of my GP. She was pretty sure my fast heart rate was too much caffeine. Still need to have my pulse done again to be 100% sure.

It's hell for 3 or 4 days, but then you feel great, sleep heavier. Well worth giving up.

As to the water debate 2-3 litres a day. Rofl at people thinking that's a lot. Bet they are dehydrated.

I never saw anyone say it was specific to the UK - sorry my mistake then not to notice that but even with that then I'd say an awful lot of people come here from other parts of the world.

I wouldn't think twice of including fluid from food into what I would expect to need, fluid wise, over a day. I just felt it was too dismissive.

I'm from other parts of the world :p

You're being far too harsh with your language - but perhaps I just used the wrong syntax. To my mind (which I understand is where I made my first mistake) - my point was that relying and assuming that you can get away with less hydration from water owing to food was in my mind incorrect, as was those snorting ridicule at people saying that 2+ litres of water a day is excessive.

I guess I wasn't very clear with what I was trying to say.

I think the advice is that you drink roughly about 2 litres of liquid plus whatever you retain from your food as party of your overall intake.

Recently I'm obsessive about my pee colour tbh, so I drink a little more than I used to...the upshot being I feel a lot better, more alert and I eat less (which is a good thing for me).

Obviously this is going to be as individual as everything else, but I think 2L of liquids on top of food is a relatively universal place to start for most people. My Uro consultant did say that I'd be surprised just how many people go through life under hydrated (not dehydrated, but under hydrated...if that's different he didn't explain why).

It's surprising as well just how little 2 litres is during a day, I think most people would be surprised just how much they do actually drink when they concentrate on it. Like obsessive old me at the moment. ;)

I'm pretty pedantic about it too - I drink around 3L too. Excluding when I go to the gym. However, I make sure I get electrolytes in as drinking lots of water alone doesn't replenish them which is important (but then I do pretty intense workouts for several hours). That's where fruit and veg come in handy :)

I'm into the cruciferous vegetables at the moment, Spouts, broccoli, cauliflower...no cabbage, no matter how I try I can't stand cabbage. Fruit wise I limit the citrus fruits, mainly sticking with apples, pears and bananas. I drink fruit and herbal teas, naturally no caffeine, even decaf still has some caffeine in it, so I limit decaf as well.

Drink like 4 to 5l a day, fite me.

But on a serious point, it's good for my skin (spotty teens may like to know!), calms your appetite, good for your teeth.

Good to hear - that's pretty much my behaviour. :)

Cruciferous veg rock, and are SO good for you. We eat kilos of the stuff over a week. :)

I cant keep myself away from the bog(moreso than coffee) when i drink large quantities of water during the day. Nuisance when you're at work.

How can you not like cabbage.
Get a white cabbage, and thinly slice.
Stir fry in a wok with a bit of oil. When done(still with a bit of crunch) stir in an egg or two. Season.

Serve with gravy and what ever else you want, mash and sausages is a good one.

I love cabbage, home made coleslaw, nothing like shop brought rubbish. Loads of different ones.
Thinly sliced white or purple, carrot, onion. Mayo, vinegar of choice, whole grain mustard. Lovely with any grilled meat.

A few months ago I discovered caffeine in my tea was causing my IBS (or whatever it was) to flare up. Was drinking about 2 -3 cups a day, but stopped drinking tea or any other caffeine containing drink immediately as well reducing my dairy intake. Took about a week to adjust and I did feel noticeably more tired, especially during the evenings. Thankfully though my IBS symptoms (mainly bloating and diarrhea) were significantly reduced.

Currently drinking decaff tea. Not the quite the same thing, but better than nothing.

I was talking about simple boiled Green Cabbage. I eat stir fry and coleslaw on occasion.

Slighty straying down a water discussion route here (sorry OP) but whats everyones opinion on drinking warm water over cold?

Cold water is supposed to give your metabolism a quick 30% boost...dunno how true that is though.

Warm water is not my thing though...cold I love.
