QX9650 Results and Tips Thread

It's a retail CPU, the newest batch from what I can tell. There are no cold boot issues all the way to -45c...which is nice. I was a little concerned about that!

It's better than the ES Q9550 in that it has an unlocked multi, if the Q9550 didn't have an FSB wall or a locked multi then I am sure it would clock really far too.

How you comparing this to the 9550?

was not having the unlocked multi on the 9550 a massive disadvantage?

It's a little bit faster.

W3bbo is going to love me:

I managed to get the fastest Wprime 1024mb on Single Stage Cooling on Hwbot.

4mins 14seconds 540ms.
Beating the closest single stage by a clear 5 seconds. Also beating a lot of DIce runs. And even some LN2 runs!!!!!!1 one !!!1

linky

I also had the second fastest 32mb Wprime but couldn't get it to validate :(

Congrats weescott m8

Unlucky about the 32mb Wprime validation.

have you re-run the 32mb Wprime?

Thanks. :)

I managed a sub 8 second run which aint too shabby, still well off the time I hoped for though. I have some tweaks to try, so I hope to get a slightly better time.

must be hard using a prommy/vapo on these, look at the expense.

and when faster chips come out you are screwed so about another 200-300 quid to have your unit retuned

The tuning is a once only affair. My units are tuned for 260w load and have universal fittings (chilly1 / Duneik heads). Good for clocking the hotest of CPU's

/Slaps weescott:mad:

I love you.

How many heavily overclocked CPU's do you know of that put out more than 260w of heat?

Phase units were typically tuned for around 230w+ for Quad Kentsfield, mine are tuned for 260w for Quad Yorkfield (200w would be enough for decent clocks).

I think I caused a brown out in my street. The power went off briefly. :o

This chip/board is/are a real pain to recover from a failed overclock. I tried to boot at 12x400 and it didn't like it. The only way I could get it to post again was by putting in a Cellery, booting into windows, switch off, put in the Quad, save the defaults quickly (or I have to put the cellery back in) and start clocking again! I had to do this with a Cellery as it didn't like the E2180 either.

I'll bet the power wasn't the only thing brown after you couldn't get a £700 processor working again :D

Awesome clock though from both of you. Can't believe I'm tempted to shell out for the EE processor, but the argument about an FSB wall does make sense.

Damn! ;)
