R600 Benchmarks??

I hope r600 is faster than gtx so it keeps them on each other toes.
On about refresh and what card is best,it will just go back and forth between nvidia and ati like normal.

Probably true but judging by those benchmarks .... ATI has a lot of catching up to do!

I get the feeling the R600/G80 story has ended up a little like the PS3/360. Both have been in development for about the same time. Like Sony, ATI went for the pontentialy quicker but more complicated solution (wouldn't suprise me if it turned out to be more expensive as well). Nvidia went for the middle ground with a not as elegant solution but one that did the job. However thay managed to get it to market quicker and have started racking up early adopter market share. Nvidia also have the advantage now (like 360) to be able to keep the momentum going with price cuts / refresh products.

ATI have some breathing space as these are enthusiast cards still and a lot of people will wait for a few months from G80 release to see what the ATI card is before buying. Of course some will have bought G80s already and seem to be getting good results. If ATI release now being 3 or so months later to market they have to have something that will match or beat the G80 or risk losing all the people that waited for them this time round.

Of course by the summer we'll be back to the normal revision from one manufacturer beats the other but by such a small margin that you can still argue ones better than the other by comparing price/features/bundles/drivers/whatever to make a diffence.

The only real risk to ATI is if they come to market now and the card is slower/more expensive than the G80 (which has already dropped by £50+) they're going to **** off a lot of ATI fans who have been waiting and may not do so next time.

Well their results for 3dMark05 with the single 8800GTX are plain wrong:-

And I'm at stock, not the 3.2GHz they're claiming to use!

Have not benched in a while but last I did was when I got my quad-core and 8800GTX.

I got; 12246 in 06.
QX6700 @ Stock
8800GTX
630core
1.88mem

Just yoinked that from my notepad full of stuff I use for stuff like this :p
What's wrong with it?

Not sure what your point is :p , your score is normal for 06 at default settings and I'm assuming my 05 score is normal for the non-default settings that the ATI propaganda machine would have us believe would make a 8800GTX only score 11000. Either way, my setup scores more than their supposed R600 machine on otherwise identical hardware, despite my CPU being clocked 500-600MHz less.

Inkwell know suggesting its due Late Feb/early March.

Id say its too late but theres sod all games out there letalone Vista ;)

This is true but lets not forget how well the 8800 performs under XP. If the R600 doesn't show up until March and those benchmarks are even close to correct, ATI has dropped the ball in a very big way. You can be assured the Nvidia refresh will have turned up by then. You can be further assured that it will easily match or better the R600.

From todays Inquirer (so take with a large pinch of salt!!!)

THE FIRST AMD/ATI graphics chip just cannot enter the world without much screaming and wriggling.
In fact, it's looking more like Nvidia is going to be to the market first with an 80 nanometre version of the G80 graphics chip, rather than ATI's 720 million transistor monster.

The last revision of the prototype chip - upon which a certain "pre-review" is based - also suffers from problems which are serious enough to get another re-spin, sources tell me. This re-spin puts a hold on the launch for another couple of weeks, and now R600 is looking like an early March launch, probably the week before SnowBIT in Hangover. However, AMD/ATI is making severe changes to the whole line up and we can say that this launch, when it happens, will be very, very shocking for the 3D industry.

I am not talking about pseudo-penismarks here.

We learned about the performance and feature characteristics and they're looking pretty impressive in more than one way, although you can expect that Dr. Spinola's engine is getting into defensive mode, saying people "don't understand what the R600 is".

However, engineer teams are working around the clock to make this launch as good as possible.

One small note on the tech demos. Prepare for your mandibles to drop, because Adrienne should look like a high-school attempt at 3D graphics compared to ATI's thing.

Anyone have the foggiest idea what they are on about when they mention the launch is going to be "shocking"?

Launch a low budget version first instead of going for the full hog
Take the mid-low market by storm probally

ATI is already dominating the mid-range and high end, but the 8800GTS and GTX are the only option now for people shopping in the super high end. ATI doesn't need to worry about the mid-range and high end for some time, but they need something to compete with G80.

Well i have heard that they rae realeasing thier ddr3 version first then thier ddr4 version in afterwards
But what are they talking about "it will shock the 3d industry"
maybe it size???

The size and power comsumpiton along with cost is probably shocking to most poepl. :p

Yeah funny how i heard March a few weeks ago as well, but i heard it was due to a problem with the board, nothing about a re-spin. :p

19th December i posted about hearing March here
