R600 - When

Where did the £500 figure come from anyway?

Well they are £500 here, well they've gone back down to £487 again now as ive just looked, so everyone is assuming thats how much they are. :p

Nowt wrong with AOL, im on the 2mb Gold, no capping/shaping, nothing, 100% Unlimited, i can download at 230k+ 24/7, 365, i can download the whole of the internet if i want to (which i probably have done by now :D ) and they will not bat an eye-lid. :D

r600 intended to use 64 shader processors and 32 actual rendering pipelines. but they scrapped that idea now that they have had a taste of what nvidia can do.

expect r600 to be delayed till december 2007

I don't think that the G80 uses that much power or is that big tbh.

Considering it poops all over xfire.

In Oblivion my framerate has doubled over the GX2.

It really has to seen to be believed.

I think the G80 is far from a joke.

Infact with the speed and IQ coming from one card its, in all actually, awsome. :D

In fact I'm loving my new system with my new 680i :D

See, now this is the kind of mis-information that is being thrown about. Looking at the Anandtech figures, here are some fps rates at 1920x1440 which is close to what I would play at.

Xfire 1st, 8800 2nd

Fear 73 vs 59
Oblivion 27.5 vs 33.1
BF2 118.2 vs 127.4
Prey 81.3 vs 78.2
HL2 122.9 vs 129.8
BW2 40.7 vs 41.2

Now, I am assuming you are talking about a single card vs xfire as you are only running 1 card, and as you can see, your statement would need a fair amount of imagination to be classed as "poops all over". For me, the switch to a G80 would give me negligible performance boosts and for that, I would need to drain and pull my loop apart, take my blocks off and re-attach the original heatsinks/fans, and then sell both cards. I think most would agree way too much hassle for the increases you see. Granted I could shell out a lot more cash and go SLI for some very impressive results, but that's not what this post is about.

I can't believe you actually entered into this debate.

It doesn't matter what you think, or if you're right or wrong.

If you diss someone's £500 card, you WILL get flamed.

and for god sake don't have a go at me without truely reading the post, i said the SIZE of the thing is the most ridiculous thing, looking the opposite direction are we? i remember people laughing now about 'a computer that fits into a single room' well looks like were going back that way, think about it, the super-tanker sized R600 and G80 that require similar amount of power to run, were ever getting closer to the days where computers couldn't fit into a case on you desk, desktop howabout clifftop? (and FFS stop going on at Ulfhedjinn cause he has some good points, the way i see it, someone questions all your precious 8800 and you enter schoolchild, schoolyard mode) i couldn't even fit the things into my case, hence the problem, i could buy several of them if i wanted but what warrants it? what does one of these do better in the games i play and applications i run than SLI 7900GS', answer, absolutely nothing, as long as frame-rates are easily playable why do you care so much about wasting money on a vulgar, titanic card when you simply don't need it? you all get to give your opinions on 'wow 8800 is god', 'wow the framerate is off the uber scale' of course some aren't going to jump on the G80 boat, just let them have there opinion and read it rather than seeing it as a personal attack, sheesh

Sorry I don't get your point? You're happy with the video cards you have so that's great, so are a lot of people. Why do you feel the need to try to put down the people that have or are considering buying one with comments like "wasting money on a vulgar, titanic card when you simply don't need it".

When did you become our collective mum to decide what people do or don't need or when they are wasting money? As you say...Sheesh...

I really don't understand how someone who is happy with their purchase of a G80 effects you in any way and why you feel the need to try to make out they are some kind of idiot. If you run at 1280x1024 or maybe a little above anyone buying a G80 is unlikely to use it's full potential, or see any real advantage (unless they're using something low end at the moment). We know that. However lots of people are either enthusiasts, using high res (i.e. 1900x1280) or are upgrading from a low end spec with a view to the future.

So far in almost every G80/R600 thread there are posts from a fairly regular group of people giving anyone interested in the new cards a hard time. If you're happy with you solution that's great, just let the guys who are enjoying having something new get on with it..

Good grief...

The G80 is not vulgar,

Xfire x1950's at £600 + is vulgar.

How much were you 2 x 7900's i sli?

Around £250?

Thats vulgar lol

70 quid more gets you a single card solution with a 8800 GTs that will poop all over it.

Card justifiaction to the max here!

LOL :D
